Cheap hardwearing light varmint rifle

I think in .204 this could be close to the perfect cheap walkaround
varminter for the cash strapped, in the light barrel the .204 would
still be quite stiff..

jb747 was saying (iirc) that his 204R was good with a thin profile
tube, and that makes sense the hole down the centre is quite small.

non-slip stock, tough, accurate and smooth, adjustable trigger and
nice balance (if the stock is ok) I'm seriously thinking that it could
be a really nice selection.

Arch, don't forget to have a look at the CZ 527sporter in the .204.
Very light, very rugged, single set trigger for long shots, comes with rings and mounts and has detactable magazine, its floated from the factory and is a perfect miniture of a mauser action(to build on later if you want) I think Bluebird has one ? I have the same in .223 and at 3.220kgs all up, its a great walkabout varmiter and will shoot under .5 @ 100 yards.
Think it cost me $920 about five years ago, I think they are cheaper now?

Mandy is shooting a modified Rem LVSF in 204. That has a 22" barrel that is .65" at the muzzle, and fluted, so it is pretty light. It has been amazingly accurate since she got it, averaging under .5 moa with the 39 gr Sierra and handloads of 2206H.

We are in the process of building her another 204 (left handed this time), and the barrel coming from PacNor is going to be exactly the same profile as the current one.

The only reason for looking at the howa over the CZ is the indestructible stock, because iits likely to cop a flogging as a walk around job
