importing components (including 17FB brass)

I have just finished making 300 of theses little beasties but remember a topic discussing how to get the factory stuff. Any here yet?

I sent a question to Grafs about export permits as was interested (mildly) in some of the Lapua Tac 20 brass.

When I checked out their site there was 17FB listed for anyone that is keen.

Apparently they do the export permit with no charge, we need an import permit here. I've never done this before but they advise our paperwork needs to specify what we want.

Anyone who is interested in a brass/ projie bulk import please check their site to see what you want and post here, then once we have a list we'll talk logistics.

Lets see, $97 US for 500, thats $111 $AU for 500, works out to $22 for 100. Lets see, I paid $32 for a box of 100 here.

I also like the look of the 95 grain SST's for my 243, $25 ($AU 28 ) for 100 and it they are advertised at $46.50 per hundred in he January Sporting Shooter.

Oh and I can also go a Hornady neck sizing die for my 204 ruger as well, they only had a full length die set in stock when I got my 204, gotta complete the set. And a 20 cal powder funnel, making do with using a 22 cal powder funnel for charging 204 cases is annoying me.

Hi everyone , I have just ordered 2000 175 Gr 7mm Match Kings from Mid south shooters supply .. The import permit from the firearms registry is a no brainer .. just a letter explaining what I wanted , why ( lack of availability .. or whatever you want to tell them ) and a part number / quantity / supplier . REMEMBER that the shipping is a big line item .. about $100 USD for my projectiles .. bur even with the shipping , Im saving about $300 AUD on the price of 2000 so the running around is worth it . Remember also to stay under $1000 on the order so you dont get hit with import taxes / duties in Australia !

I buy MOST of my gear form the US , Sinclair's , Gaffs, lock stock and barrel .. etc . Most of the time its faster and cheaper to buy directly from them rather than being dicked around for months by a local supplier that doesn't have stock / doesn't want to carry specialised items / tries to sell you item B because that's all he carries when you insist you need item A .. or wacks on a 200% mark up. ** a Sydney gun shop took almost 5 months to get in some Winchester 284 brass for me when the Australian Lapua supplier ran out of stock. By the time they called me , I had got Lapua brass from the US for 1/2 what they wanted for the Winchester stuff they ordered ! ** . When ordering parts , if you can tell the supplier to use names like " sporting accessories " for parts like dies etc, or " machine springs" rather than firing pin springs .. the packages tend to get less attention and therefore .. less delivery delays. For items that require permits , just be friendly , honest and polite to the firearms registry and don't be afraid to call them and confirm if you need import permits for items if your not sure . For any firearm part , ammunition or ammunition part you DO need a permit and depending on the part ( barrel / action ) the part may need to be delivered to a licensed dealer.. I have been told in the past that , yes I do need an import permit for a timber stock and then a week later, no .. I don't need an import permit for the same item. So just keep track of names and times of conversations in case there is an issue

I had the same problem, bought a .17 powder funnel and carefully drilled it out to take the 204 neck...!

Buy a 17 cal RCBS funnel, stick a 5m drill bit have way up the spout and you have a perfect funnel

I was either dreaming or they pulled the ad but the 17fb brass was not listed next time I looked! Dont know how keen I am now!
