A relo of mine discovered this yesterday and while they know nothing about firearms and ammunition thought to send it to me.
I think I have identified it but would appreciate the learn-ed members here providing some input.
Can anyone confirm my googling, without disclosing what I think it is?
Interesting to note the primer appears intact, and have passed on suggestions as how to neutralise it (which has been done).
Can anyone identify this?

I'll take a guess of 6.5x52 Carcano. Assuming that it's an optical illusion showing the length as 53mm. But I've been wrong before

That's what my googling revealed. Headstamp seems pretty conclusive but you never know.Gatekeeper25 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 9:28 pm I'll take a guess of 6.5x52 Carcano. Assuming that it's an optical illusion showing the length as 53mm. But I've been wrong before

I wouldn't think that's very common in Australia, unless it was a bring back after the war.
May have to take a metal detector around the site where it was found in the vain hope there may be more "pieces" in the general vicinity (particularly as the primer was technically "live").
Also something to add to the JFK conspiracy theorists....

I nearly asked if it was found on a grassy knoll....
There is a few of them around the place. I had one for a short time (long time ago) complete with bayonet. Got it in a deal with some other stuff. Wasn't too interested in it so gave it to a collector friend.
