17 vs 20cal
Re: 17 vs 20cal
Barry,
I think I agree. The fact I can shoot 20s, and 25s and get over the 4K hump relatively easily is the clincher. Already have the dies, brass, cleaning gear etc to see out at least x1 17cal barrel. Other nicety is being in irrigation country, with dairy cows all around, whatever fragments easiest etc is a bonus.
Cheers...

Re: 17 vs 20cal
Why is 4389.12 km/h such a magical number?
Do the varmints know the difference between 3840.48 and 4389.12?
A smart arse way to ask a genuine question.

Re: 17 vs 20cal
Just because Rabs, just because.
17s are ok if you want to limit damage, but the 20cals make for better paddock pizza.
Nice code words Barry, but I reckon I am onto you.
Re: 17 vs 20cal
Just fun. I've got a 22/250 that launches 40s uber fast, but it's loud for our 30acres. Ok elsewhere.
Both 17Rem and 204 offer small bolt compatible, velocities higher than normal, effective on small game, and near point and shoot.
Besides, what's a build without a purpose/goal?! Being able to see hits also appeals.
Cheers...

Hey Co, if you are swaying towards the .17 cal then I second the .17-222. Gives little away to the .17Rem, brass much easier to find, and with an S-type bushing die case forming is reasonably straight forward.
I can send you photos out of my loading records for if you are interested - some of the velocities are surprising.

Arh Roadkill61 I also like your way of thinking, although I like 40grainers @ 4000 in my 20 PPC,

Re: 17 vs 20cal
Gday Sir Jack, yeah I have mate, but I can't remember exactly, last load I used with the 32gn Zmax was 22.5gn 2207, speed was north of 3900 but still under the 4000. I might have to do another couple over the crono.jacksaligari wrote: ↑Sat Feb 06, 2021 3:48 pm Hey camel you ever chronied your load to see how quick it is

Re: 17 vs 20cal
Another vote for 17 Rem here. People only go for the big bad 20 cals to over compensate for small willies.
