Thanks mate. Having a go now at a decent sized Bowie. Don't usually do large knives, but had the thick 14c28n steel, so doing something different. Its a bit hot playing with knives and fires when its around 37c

Thanks mate, they all came up reasonably well. One is off to a good home in the morning. The one with the Hybrid handle. I sorta like that one the best myself from the last three.

I just freehand ground a big hollow grind on a knife. It came out really well for an old one eyed Geriatric so I think I might just keep this first hollow ground knife for myself. I will show some photos when its finished

sorry i didnt get back to yas about the handle reoairs.
the ol boy decided it wasnt worth the bother.
i guess he'll have a crack at it himself.

I just finished this knife. Its the first one I had a go at freehand hollow grinding. It ended up with some deep grind lines and had to sand the damn thing. Boy what a PITA sanding a large hollow grind, my thumb was near wore out and couldn't feel it for a couple of hours after as was like pins and needles. Any more hollow grinds won't get sanded unless I can think of an easier way. Anyway, still not 100% happy as a few marks near the plunge line, other than that it's not too bad and I reckon I will keep this one for myself and use it a bit when I get a chance. Scales are Hybrid Bimble Box Burl and red resin, brass pins. Steel is 2.6mm NitroV, so should be good edge holding ability. Thanks for looking.

Another hollow grind. This is same steel 2.6mm NitroV has a white Mallee burl handle with a fancy pin showing a deer in the mountains. Has a tiny mark on one side of the grind. Hard to see, but its there. I might try another hollow grind yet, but I'm thinking their a bit too much trouble to do.

Here's one I just ground number three hollow grind Video at top

I just hollow ground a knife I had already hardened trying something different. I used a jig a mate made for me and thought for sure I would stuff it up, so only ground with a rough grit belt. I should have went a couple of grits smaller but it still looks fine.
Anyway here's a couple of photos showing each side that I finished up getting quite even and a video to show the grinds properly. I was very happy with it and will no doubt be doing a few more hollow ground knives for people who want something a little different. Thanks for looking

My son and a lot of others like the grind marks too. Also they seem to cut better. Maybe it's because it has Micro serrations I suppose, too small for the eye to see but there. Next one I am going to try to leave the grind lines, but make them finer using a higher grit belt.

Made a Hawk over the weekend too. It has buffalo horn handle scales and is 4mm thick 14c28n Sandvik stainless steel.
