Red dot or a low power scope with illuminated reticle?

I had a vortex venom for a while on the hound rifle. It was a good unit. Kept the sight line low to the barrel.

Are they easier to get a bead on a running deer than a low power scope?

Mark, If you want something to try I have a eBay Bushnell 25mm x 1 (if I recall correctly) you can try. Will fit a standard rail.

If you're interested I'll dig it out of the gun safe and look up the specs. Admittedly, it's a pretty basic illuminated red dot...

Can be. I had mine set up on top of a higher power scope. Best of both worlds at the time. Ended up putting a leupold 1.5-4 on in the end. It’s low enough power to be able to shoot both eyes open and not lose sight of the deer while trying to acquire it through the scope.

I've got a Shield sight mounted on a pistol slide and it does a good job.

I have a shotgun with a C-More sight on it and that is good too.

It just depends on what style you are after.

I also have 1 or 2 old tasco pro points and they are good too. worth a look if you can get a good one secondhand.

Mark, how are your eyes? If you have astigmatism you will struggle with a red dot due to the halo the astigmatism causes.

Cheers. Kickin
