Decarbonising diesels

Everything that is outdoors and not hunting or shooting. Talk about fishing, 4wd, archery, camping, motorbike riding etc etc.

Decarbonising diesels

Post by The Raven »

What’s everyone’s thoughts on all the various magical elixirs for decarbonising modern diesels (specifically CRD)?

I need to get a new vehicle since the brand new company 4X4 got yanked out from under me. So, I’m considering if decarbonising is worthwhile for any used vehicle I may get.

Do you have a preferred method/mixture?

I’ve alway wondered if it would be better to dump the contents in the tank so it has a longer soak time than a short in/out the engine.

They do however advise on calorific content, and from there its your choice.

Pull the intake off and clean it manually.

I realised my suggestion was silly. Adding the decarb treatment to the tank would do nothing for the intake on diesel

I looked into that and it would be quite an involved task so I went for option 2: LiquiMoly treatment used as directed.

It did the job well but using my little endoscope camera I can still see some carbon build-up way back in the manifold. Suffice to say the vehicle feels a bit smoother/powerful...but that could be the placebo effect.
