Advice for air rifle purchase

Post by Branxhunter »

Looking to the AV brains trust for some advice to inform a possible air rifle purchase.

TYB is finally showing some interest in shooting and managed to sling half a tin of pellets at various tins over the weekend. I currently have my cousins old BSA Meteor but am looking at buying something a bit better.

I know the BSA is not as accurate as it could be as I did some work for a young bloke on his grandfathers old BSA Super Meteor which was proved to be more accurate with two different sorts of pellets.

I’m also not particularly impressed with the mushy shitty trigger on the Meteor.

It would mostly be used for controlled marauding tin cans, empty shotgun shells and the like, but possibly with some rat/sparrow control, and potentially even some rabbit action.

So the desirable features are:

- Springer (can’t be arsed with PCPs and the associated pumps, tanks etc)

- good trigger

- wood stock, preferably more traditional style

- ability to mount a scope

So what brands and models do you suggest? I’m thinking Weihrach, Beeman, Diana. Any suggestions? Anything to avoid?

You could also ring him at QGE, I am sure you would be able to find the number easy enough

Don’t think you’d go wrong with any of those 3 brands. Which model exactly though will be the fun part. Lewis should be able to give you some commonsense guidance.

FYI Beeman is now Chinese owned as of about 2009 and the lower end guns are Chinese made.

I'm planning on seeing Lewis tomorrow and can check it out. R1 might be too hard to cock for a young bloke . I'll check with Lewis when I see him.

Terrific Daisy, that would be great. I'm yet to PM Lewis as our internet seems to be shaped at the moment, although it's better this morning.

Well I drove into the city to the QGE. And of course I didn't ring before hand to see if Lewis would be there. So after the gps took me on a city tour I missed him. I did ask about the airgun but it wasn't there and they don't have any second hand ones.
