The 204 short holds 1.6gns more of BM1 than a standard 222
I’ll do a water check sometime

Got the better of me...
The 204 short has 1 gn more of water than a standard 222
27.2 in a 222
28.2 in my 204 short
I used an A&D scale

Can you not get a false shoulder going from 22 to 20?

Yeah you can, but maybe the false shoulder would end up in the wrong place as the body is longer than a standard 222

I just followed another thread on here using that procedure, I have a 6mm mandrel so easy to do.

Did a little testing today
DA7F0189-7D4E-49EC-A003-BF89EA1ACF56.jpeg
23gn of BM1 gave 3650 with 39gn sierras
3 shots 8mm at 150yds
23.5 gave 3730 but primers were flattening out a bit, cases showed no sign of sticking.
With similar grouping

I think 23gns might be the go

3650 FPS with 39`s out of that little case (relatively)is rather impressive.

I would like to see what you can get with 40 Vmax both accuracy and speed wise.

It does look like BM1 suits that case size.

Barrel is a sporter weight maddco 22” with a 12 twist
75 sako profile which is a little heavier than the 85 so had to open the barrel channel to suit.
I wanted it as close to the standard sako barrel as possible as I think it’s about perfect for a spotlight rig

I have some 32s to try, but don’t think I’ll try the 40s as I have plenty of 39s

Read that again and give yourself a swift uppercut

I ended up getting Matt P to run a 204 reamer in short to suit a 222 case.
Pic shows
222,222 necked up to 6mm, sized to 20 cal, annealed case, loaded case, fire formed case loaded.

21gns of BM1 gave approx 3400fps with a 39gn - room for improvement
I’m hoping for 3700

This is the best group
Decided not to show the worst which was around 1.5”
Just fire forming groups
Pretty happy so far

I am surprised that it is only 1 grn of water more capacity as the shoulder is longer and the case has less taper.

What speed are you getting with the 32's

Maybe the less than expected increase is because I measured a standard 222 case with the 22cal neck
While the shoulder moves forward the neck size is reduced
Either that or I measured wrong?
I’ll do another check soon

How does it feed out of the 85 mag
What speed were you getting with 39’s with the original chambering
Have you tried the 32’s
