Got more bits done today, first up I needed a slide things to go over the vents at the top of the fire box, a piece of 2 inch x1/8th flat, with 3/4 inch holes in the right place, two 50 mm lengths of 18x18 square tube and a couple of bits of rod cut from a spare tire lowered and six inches of 1/4 rod.





Seeing as it is all but finished except for wheels and paint job, I decided to give it a test run to check for leaks





Smoke goes where it is sposed to and only a slight leak around the lid seal

Chamber was getting good and hot, but need temp gauges to see how hot.

Do you get “hard rubbish collections” out that way? If so, keep any eye out for the inevitable mountain of BBQ’s as you might find one with a temp gauge. Hopefully it’ll cover the temperature range you’re aiming at with the smoker.

You don't have to worry too much about leaking. A lot of smoking is low and slow so you don't need a lot of heat 70-180c.

Nope, just the junk pile at the tip, which it is verboten to touch, unless you are the Tip Lacky, who is also the fella who has orders to run the dozer over it and stuff anything that might be of use there, and push it into a big pile. Its a waste, but the council is worried about its safety obligations of someone who might hurt something when picking up something. They also get a scrappy in and sell all the metal to them.

Finally arrived



Will fit them today, one each end and one in the middle . Might give it a run on weekend. Changed the chimney to a round one, got a 4ft length on 4 inch alloy irrigation pipe, need to make a mounting collar and a cap for it. Photo later

Gauge 1 is opposite end to firebox, 2 is middle and 3 is above firebox. Once up to temp, they mostly evened out with 1 being around 10f hotter, am very happy with the result.

Started making chinaman’s cap for chimney top, split and flattened an off cut of alloy pipe, marked a 5.5 inch circle with a tool I made up to mark circles, kinda like a compass but different. Cut it out with some snips

!200 long in the smoke chamber, so yeah, I could stick a big chunk of carcass in there.
