Re: Smoker
All in good time John all in good time
Thanks Mark
More done under the guidance of Rippa, got the hinges and cam locks from one of my boxes of bits and pieces, interrupted by trip to tip and a visit to a mates place. Then pop riveted the alloy flat for the door seal, run out of daylight
More tomorrow
Thanks Mark

Re: Smoker
I am glad you said almost, I have a reputation to live down to.
I am still waiting for Sean 220 to come in and offer some sage like advice, one thing that I have tried to find, but have no luck so far with is does the baffle plate need to be sealed along the edges ? and what is the best distance to have the cooking rack above the baffle plate ? In true RAF tradition, I took a punt and made it 6 inches.

Re: Smoker
Yeah the horizontal ones are far better for doing big lots. I use mine a lot with the camp oven inside. My missus hates the look of it and wants me to get rid of it.Camel wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 11:37 am I cut one end off to clean the tank internally, and it is enameled inside, so will have to be careful and use safety gear, mask, goggles and ear muffs.
Ted, yeah I saw that one for sale on AHN, bit far to drop round for the arvo and pick it up, and I wanted to do an offset smoke box and have it horizontal instead of upright. I also have an old condemned 100lb gas bottle down the back.

Re: Smoker
Got some more done today, hinges fitted, cam locks done, made new ash tray door, fixed up main door to firebox, and scrubbed rack and plates.
Couldn’t be stuffed using rivets and went with small tech screws, can always cut off the bits sticking inside.
Gunna start on the framework for stand next.

Re: Smoker
Well it’s in one piece, or nearly, just got the end to do and one hole to block. Rack will probably be two pieces so I can get it in and out if needed. Wheels to come and some way of attaching some handles similar to a wheel barrow. Still need to tidy up some welds and then coat with heat proof black paint

Re: Smoker
Thanks Tez and Trev, made a couple of booboos but am happy with progress so far. Only cost has been a packet of rivets, all other stuff was recycled bits and pieces.
Made cover plate for the end and welded it in place, had to modify the rack so I can take it out if the need arises. Then grinding and tidying up some welds. Need a chimney next, will see what the smash repair joint ha in their junk pile
End plate
Modified rack
In between doing this, I found time to dig over a couple of veggie plots
