After seeing the smoker that Sean built, and sampling some of the tucker that could be produced from one, when my hot water stank shit itself a couple of weeks ago, I figured I would give it a try to make one.
Tank stripped of cladding and insulation, dug out the 4 inch grinder and started cleaning it up today

An old wood heater will be joined on for the fire box, somehow

Looking good.
Do you know if the tank is internally enameled? Most tanks made in Australia are.
It can get a bit messy when you cut open an enameled tank (assuming the enamel isn't flaking off already).
Looking forward to the progress shots.

I cut one end off to clean the tank internally, and it is enameled inside, so will have to be careful and use safety gear, mask, goggles and ear muffs.
Ted, yeah I saw that one for sale on AHN, bit far to drop round for the arvo and pick it up, and I wanted to do an offset smoke box and have it horizontal instead of upright. I also have an old condemned 100lb gas bottle down the back.

Bit more done in between other jobs, bit of welding and cutting, just put in place to check some measurements
The base for heater will be welded to the open end when I finish some other bits

Looking great Camel.
I won't mention the quack in the base of your smoker though....

Plenty of quacks here at Rough As Fuck Productions Pty Ltd.com.aw.
Lid marking and cutting time, 3ft by 18” opening
Done
Was chasing some 1/4” plate to make the baffle plate out of, instead I ended up scrounging 4 cast iron bbq plates that will fit perfectly
Getting late so knock off time for today

I might have to come to Hillston again. Once you’ve got rid of the sharp bits that might kill me

What were bbq plates have now become baffle plates.
Wondering if the small gaps on the edges will make any difference to cooking

With a few modifications, this will end up as the cooking rack
Needs a good scrub as well
