The death of a barrel

Rod had a look down the barrel of my 6/250 at a missedathon a couple or three years ago and could see a lot of firecracking. It s fires a lot of rounds but still groups and still kills stuff.
Last time out I missed a couple of shots that would normally be marked down as dead. One due to a bump putting the scope out a couple of inches and one that I just can’t blame on anything but the organic component. I think it has life left but I notice it holds a lot more copper now than any of my other barrels and am taking that as a sign.

When a barrel wears out do you usually see accuracy ease off over time or does it just give up and start spraying all of a sudden?

Dunno, only ever wore out a 22rf barrel, and that was through shooting a couple hundred thousand rabbits, it was gradual.

Keep shooting it, but knowing you, now the seed of doubt has been sown, you will be always second guessing your shots. But on the bright side you now have a ready made excuse for those sitters you miss

an old shooter who comes up here to hunt gems and shoot at the club is using a TR gun with a very flogged out barrel [over 5000 rds]
he just doesnt clean it any more and shoots possibles with it.
not cleaning....what can it hurt,its already flogged.
run a couple hundred threw it and see how it goes.
i havent cleaned my TR gun for nearly 200 rnds.

Know a bloke bought an ex roo shooters rifle, shot like stink so he cleaned it and it never shot any good ever again barrel was pitted so bad he could never refill it.

I watched a bloke shooting Rabbits at 350 -500m one afternoon then bingo gone kaput stuffed just like that my first 20 ppc barrel ent exactly the same way

that old target shooter im talking about shoots a 308,another bloke has shot 1500 rds in a bartlein barrel and its stuffed [308].

My Tobler 223 barrel went in a single day. In the morning smacking rabbits at 200-300 yards. By the days end coundnt hit one at 80 yards. Tried cleqning and JB etc but no good.

Last shot was a miss prone off a bipod at 190m with a very solid rest and no wind. Hope it was just me

I was shooting a 284 in F open and had hit 7 x when the next when off target and never came back.
My last Maddco 22-250AI went from a sub .250 MOA to .3 them .4 then .5 then out to the tomatoes.
Can be abrupt or progressive. The harder you run them the more dramatic the end from my personal expierence.

The 6/250 is a relatively mild cartridge but I load it flat out. I think I’ll call seddo and get the next tube underway just in case it’s a quick ending. I’m really just looking for an excuse for shit shooting.

Now so I stay 6/250 or try something new. Always wanted a 6x47lap but I get fonder

well there is that but we got there early enough to test fire before spotlighting. Turns out when I thought I had fixed the scope that got a knock it was still and an inch and a half to the left so the little snack pack head at 200 was small enough to miss if I wasn't dead centre
