Does the .223 give to much away to the .204?

Its like you said Trev, depends on what your shooting. People bag the 204 because of the on going roo shooting debate.
I read somewhere the 204 is kinder on its barrel throat too (less powder).

My old man recently got a 204 and he loves it.
I think it is true that if you do buy one your fully converted.

And just to make it clear, I have nothing against the 22/250 or any other calibre. they all work.

Having owned and operated a 204, 223 and 22-250, I can say IMO the 204 with 39gr BKs is the pick of the three. I have provided ballistic details on this site in another topic comparing the 204 and 22-250.

That was why I commented the way I did. The person stating that the 204 was overrated struck me as someone who simply hasn't used one, and certainly has never owned one.

When we first bought a 204, we owned a 22/250, 6/250, a couple of 223s and a 222RM. Both /250s have been sold and one of the 223s is gone (the other is more a collectors item anyway). The ballistics of the 204 match the 22/250, with a lot less fuss. The 39 gr Sierra is deadly on small game, and out to well beyond the normal reach of a 223.

Right now, we have a second 204 being built, and our remaining .224 will be rebarrelled to some form of 20 cal as next years project.

Obviously they aren't legal for roo shooting, but if you're simply after a rabbit/fox/cat rifle, out to about 400 metres, the 204s are superb.

I could'nt make up my mind. So I am keeping my CZ 527 Laminate 223 and just purchased a Sako 75 Varmint 204 with set trigger......drool

Only 2 in the country

Can't wait to get the PTA and hit the range and the critters.

I am looking at the Weaver V Series 6-24X42 Varminter reticle. Dont know what mounts at this stage.....open to suggestions.
