Got a handle on this

Post by Camel »

I was lucky enough to be given an old Old Timer deer slayer knife a while back, the bloke who gave it to me had lost it a few years ago, and found it not long ago. Rust and sun damage to the handle scales made it look pretty rough. I pulled it out and took it apart on Saturday

Then got stuck in with the sanding belt to the blade

Nah, that isn’t heat coloration just a reflection from the sky light. Found a nice figured piece of Aust red cedar to make the new handle from.

Traced and cut out the scales, glued and pinned them and left over night for the epoxy to set. Then ground/sanded to final shape

The name plate was the hardest bit to inlet but it ended up nice and flush with the final sanding. Got a couple of coats of oil and polish on it yesterday and finished it off todImage

Sorry about the out of focus photos this stupid phone focused on the chair ImageImage. Gotta send it away for a sheath tomorrow Image

For this one, not an automatic upgrade for all his projects. We’ll judge each on on its merits
