If we are going to do test reports I may as well give a brief build method.
Jackets are made from .22LR cases. In this run, Eley, fired by a bloke at out local range. Cases were cleaned in SS pins and derimmed in a modified RCBS O frame press, fitted with a 4” pneumatic cylinder. Cases (now jackets) were then annealed in a small kiln at 500 degree C for 1/2 hour. They were then cleaned again,in SS pins, drawn from .220” to .170” and pinch trimmed to length. Cleaned in Shellite to remove drawing lube, weighed to get a average weight per jacket and then tumbled lubed with 1.0gn of lube /1000jackets. Jacket is now finished.
Cores are made from dead soft scrap sheet lead, cast into billets and extruded by Tripod (AUST HUNTING NET) via hydraulic press, into lead wire. Cores are cut to approx weight + 2gn, lubed, and then swaged to correct weight. Jacket + core= 22gn.
Cores are cleaned in shellite to remove lube, dried and core seated into jacket and then point formed and then rinsed in shellite to remove remaining lube. Complete. Final diameter, .1722”

I think I had a brain fade in the production of the flat base open tip,FBOT, projectiles as they come in a tad heavy of target weight, 22gn. Maybe my maths were wrong somewhere as I try and get them to be no more than 0.1gn overweight but these come to 22.18. Not that I think it will make a difference but a decent set of scales will show up the error.
All FBOT are now finished and the point forming of the SP just remains.

I have a spare pack of 50 of each if there is anyone else with a 17 cal up and running who wants to try something different.

I spent some time at the range last Sunday, with my 17 Ackley Hornet Martini Cadet. The soft points liked going slower, while the hollow points liked it more the faster they went. I don't have velocities and haven't worked out how to post photos, but they were marginally less accurate than the control rounds, with 20 grain Varmageddons.
