Trevort,
The FL die is made with another reamer ... if you get say Manson to build you a wildcat then you can order a FL die making reamer as well as the chambering reamer.
X WSSM,
You chicken ... , build a heavy hitter not a 20cal abomination.

Gday Mudgegonga,
Mate i wouldnt bother necking it to 20 cal. If you really wanted a 20 cal i would go a smaller case, something like the 20br would be very similar in bore to case ratio.
Also the 461 action isnt made for a case that size, it would have to go on a 579 if you wanted sako.
Gday Con,
For most guys wanting a wildcat full length die there are a few guys in the US where you can send 3-4 fired cases and they will make you a full length die to suit their dimensions, far easier than getting an undersized reamer for each chambering and then still having to make the die up.
cheers,
Shane
For me personaly I have thought about, and I still am seriously thinking of a .20/.250 imp, built on a trued rem 700 BDL, with a 26 inch barrel. I read somwhere on the internet of a guy who had one, it shot 1 inch hight at 100, dead on at 200, and 1 inch low at 300 with 32 grain Vmaxs.
I dont know if thats true or not, but its pretty flat shooting, I think the velocity from memory was about 4600 or 4700 fps. That should provide everything needed from a small varmint rifle
Cheers
Steve
A 20/250 Improved, that sounds like an interesting proposition. What is the heaviest/longest .20 Cal bullet available and what twist rate does it like?
Do you reckon I could get one sighted in and loads worked up before the barrel was toast?

Shane,
Too true ... from memory CH/4D, Hornady, Redding and I think Lee will make "custom" dies ... RCBS may be out of that business. The first three I think will also work with your reamer specs to do a die set without the cases. I'm sure there must be smaller specialty shops as well.

HiWall,
Build it and find out What about a 20cal using the 5.6x50 case??

If the 20/250AI spits them out at 4600-4700 fps then the fist trick will be finding a projectile that will handle that speed and if you do you will need to run it in a slower twist than it will normally need because at that rpm too much twist will give a heap of core shift or just tear them apart anyway. eg If you ran 50gn it would normally need a 9" twist but with the 20/250AI you would find 10" would be about the max with most likely 11" fairly close to the money. I would have to run this through a calculator to get the best twist but i recon 11" would be close.
cheers,
Shane

shane wrote:Well considering the question was regarding a wildcat maybe a 22-250 ackley improved with the shoulder pushed back say .100" thus giving a longer neck and a good balance of powder capacity and reasonably straight case with 40 deg shoulder.
You end up with a case that will out perform the 22br velocity wise, shoots flat, doesent have excessive case growth, doesent burn barrels near as quick as the 22-250 or its ackleyd version due to the shorter powder column and longer neck and also has a great range of projectiles to pick from as well as some quality cases available.
Shit i've talked myself into one!

Shane, have you seen this months PS? Your wildcat (or one very like it is in it! I think I will want one! Now back to that Savage action, did I read somewhere that its very easy to change the barrel on a savage? How's about this hot 22 wildcat and a 20br (same bolt face) switch barrel set up!
