well now .. how about a

25BR .. easy access to good brass, US shooters have had some success with it and it maybe as accurate as the 6PPC when matched with 75-85 grn bullets. Can be AI'd for more performance ie a 25 Dasher. Should fit in a short action, recoil would not be an issue.

6.5.06 .. Proven performer out to 1000yds. Needs a long action excellent range of bullets for long range work.

22-47 Lapua. Have heard some talk about a few being built in the US 6.5 x 47 Lapua necked down to 22. Short action, excellent brass good range of bullets in 22 cal

hows that then like anything their ?

cheers

I'm kind of partial to the remington ultra mag case. Just brilliant whether you neck it up or down. With a capacity of over 110gns of powder I think it would be the ducks guts in 264 cal. I'm already getting 4100fps with 125gn pill in 30 cal. Hmm have to drive a 100gn sierra in 264 at a good explosive pace.

300 Sierra Matchking at 3400fps sound any good? Will take from little varmints to big varmints!

Bertram is running 10,000 cases for a US contract for a "338Extreme". Some friggin' American loony finally decided to use the 505Gibbs and top it with a 338cal projectile as per the Snipe Tac

how about the 224 Vias then
224 cal based on a 6.5x55 case improved and shoulder blown a little foward.
75 A-max will reach 3700+ FPS and the 69 sierras are reported to do over 4000 FPS
and I know how you can create the reamer
might even know of a 700+mm long S/S match blank in 1:9 twist

quickly running the figures
75 A-max at 3800 FPS using a 2.5 inch PBR you can point and shoot out to 375 yards

There is also the 6 Vias which can be made from a 6.5x55 body and 6mm BR finishing reamer- just more of a good thing

Know where these a 6mm S/S match barrel 700+mm long 1:8 twist too.

X WSSM,
Unsure how much recoil your willing to accept in a varmint rifle but here are the reamer specs and a read about a 25/300WinMag.
http://feistyrooster.com/25x300/25x300reamerspec.html

If you go this way let me know!

Another odd-ball would be a 270/300WinMag and use the 270cal varmint projectiles plus the 115gr becoming available thanks to the 6.8SPC. Bonus is that secondhand Rem700's in 7mmRemMag aren't exactly rare and are usually well priced. Would make a good donor rifle and if you got sick of it would on-sell reasonably easily as an action.

Another option for a fox rifle ... push a polymer tipped projectile 50-55gr as fast as possible (4300fps ?) through a 22/284 or 22/270Win and use a slow twist barrel (1:16") to make the ride as gentle as possible. Here's a link to something similar.

Well considering the question was regarding a wildcat maybe a 22-250 ackley improved with the shoulder pushed back say .100" thus giving a longer neck and a good balance of powder capacity and reasonably straight case with 40 deg shoulder.

You end up with a case that will out perform the 22br velocity wise, shoots flat, doesent have excessive case growth, doesent burn barrels near as quick as the 22-250 or its ackleyd version due to the shorter powder column and longer neck and also has a great range of projectiles to pick from as well as some quality cases available.

Shit i've talked myself into one!
cheers,

Con your a nasty man :) :)
You must know that I've got a 300wm in the safe that hasn't fired a shot in a long time
Now you've got me thinking
However
Thinking I would like to stick with the smaller cal's
20 cal seems to be the one at the moment as I have 25-06 just don't know what case and before you suggest 300wm NO

I saw an ad in PS for die blanks that your smith cuts with your chamber reamer. Fine for neck or seater but what about a fl or body die.

Shane dont answer this, ppeeerrrllleeasse  I thought I was gonna play with a 20 br or PPc after all my current toys are finished and sighted in with loads developed!

HW, brass forming isnt very hard you just do it at the start when the brass is still standard 22-250. Using a standard shortened up 22-250 full length sizer will work fine.

Did someone else ask a question?

Oh Trev,
Mate redding type s match dies in 22-250 ack shortened up .100" will work just fine.
cheers,
