P.O.ing the 260.

Post by kickinback »

Couldn’t find a new 6.5 barrel so I had the reamer run into the original Tikka 260 Rem barrel. Knocked up 100 rounds using the 260 load of 43gr 2209 behind a Hornady 140gr hpbt. The cases formed up nicely

They performed rather well

He turned that crow into an "Oohmidoodle Bird". Had a great afternoon helping Glen fireform his cases, and what better way than to be driving around the paddock popping crows as they became available, popped a few roos under a culling licence, then to top it off, he nailed the hare, the sound of those big pills thumping into critters was quite impressive. :D

That’s the thing Gary. The case should take more pressure but it’s a big column of powder for a small primer. Only one way to find out

I’ve run the Palma brass in mine. 44gr of 09 was the limit on cci 450’s. Anything after that it got erratic. I did try 2213 and 2217 both worked ok some days other days were shithouse. I was using it for long range work so varmints probably won’t know the difference

Wardy was that any improvement over the standard large primer case in terms of max powder charge/ velocity?

There’s no point creating more space in the case if you’re not going to fill it. 2213/17 could be the go.

I got extra firings out of the cases that was about it for me. I had no need to push it past 2920-2940 with 140’s. The large primer cases I’ve run were hydro formed and have 4/5 firings on them and I don’t see them being retired before 8-10. I’m back to running 2217 on them with the large primer as they shoot very well you just need a long drop tube to not crunch powder.
