Bedding fail.

Post by mick_762 »

A good mate of mine is away O/S for work reasons and asked me if I would help him "finish off" his Tikka .338 Win Mag tart up.

Note: Ryan at no stage did any of the work himself, a mate did it for him. . .

Pulled it apart the other evening post Daisy Picking to start the process, Ryan would like the bedding redone as it looked a lil "off" as if Selly's Knead It had been used, a Kicken Trigger to be added and Missed to rub the timber.

Wow, what a surprise I got when I took the action out of the stock:

No recoil lug:

Cracked timber and "bedding" at the front action screw, which would have been acting as the recoil lug!!

What would have sheared the recoil lug off?

Geez, that's a whole quantum below even RAF Production standards.

Yikes!

So someone bedded it fully knowing the recoil lug was gone?

The numpty who did the first job probably either lost it or chucked it over his shoulder thinking that the bedding compound was stronger than steel, as some of them advertise.

Now you just hold a minute. The ‘R’ in RAF May be accurate but RAF stuff actually works. Image

Precisely - this didn't work so does not qualify as RAF quality.

Lucky that didn't bite you Dave!

So even if the lug can be replaced that stock is pretty unsavagable, without a ton of work? Your mate will not be pleased.

Nah Raven, that stock wouldnt take much to fix, a bit of wood glue and clamp the parts in place, then a good bedding job including a recoil lug. Not hard to do. :D
