Finally got around to it

Life for this rifle had been a rather interesting journey, started out as a new Zastava 223 with a plastics stock, didn’t get shot and had the factory barrel removed and replaced with a Lila heavy barrel in 17/222. Ned Kelly made me a very nice stock to my dimensions,I really liked it in that configuration, but the itch to try something else, saw me sell off the 17 barrel and brass and swap my 22Ppc barrel rechambered in another so called obsolete clambering...222Rem. Yeah, boring I knowImage The barrel was made by McGowen and finished at 22 inches, it had only a hundred or so shots through it as a 22PPC

I had made up some test loads a few months ago, 50gn Zmax projectiles, AR2207 powder, Lapua match brass and Rem 7 1/2 primers. First load of 20.5gn had me a little worried,

But as the speed increased, the groups shrunk nicely,

Until the final shot on the top load

I got all excited and blew my load on the last shot Image which is too hot for use but that sure was an eye opening speed for an old obsolete cartridge Image

I’ll give the 21.5 load another run, but I think it will be where I end up.

I am going to like this one. Conditions today were magic, sunny, warm, no wind, until.....I had set everything up Image then the cloud started rolling in and a light cold sou’wester popped up, I managed to find a fence line along the edge of a timbered creek which gave me a wind break of sorts.

I am happy tonight. ImageImage

Finished now at 22, it was 25 as a PPC. :D

Not a bad place to start looking, they are a nice little rifle, I just dont like the magazine in them, but other than that, they are good gear. :D

Looking good. That Zasty is almost shooting like a Sako :D

That's a fancy schmancy looking chrony you have there on your bench.

Not really over-run with feed there at the moment are you? :(

The 222 is always a class act.
Looks the goods and those groups should spell bad news for whatever is at the dangerous end of the barrel.
Cheers.

You need to change tabacco.
I do not understand why you would smoke 1 that can cause throat cancer, you cannot replace your throat. You need 1 that causes heart disease, heart transplants are a regular thing these days or better yet 1 that says your smoking can harm others or smoking when pregnant can harm your baby( assuming you will not be getting pregnant any time soon).

I told the 17/222 barrel it was going to a bloke who would probably put it onto a Sako action, the poor thing got all sad and seems to have developed a severe case of droop. :P

Yeah, its the first one I have owned, picked it up for 130 bucks off a bloke on AHN last year, I still have to learn how to work it properly, the only two buttons I know how to work are the on/off and the average.

No, things are still pretty stuffed, had 30mm a couple of weeks ago, got the greenery going but several severe frosts have knocked it around and blued it off. Still feeding sheep, hope to get some more soon or it will be a very hard spring/summer this year. :(

I keep telling the checkout chick to give me the brand that either harms others or will hurt unborn babies, and as I can't get pregnant it the safest tobacco to get for a bloke. The first time I told her that, her jaw hit the floor.

Often happens when first confronted with top quality and real class. I gather it is due to the weight of expectation. 8)
