RCBS Chargemaster Lite

Having started reloading a little while back I've now decided that manually throwing and measuring charges is a bit of a pain. So I've been researching the various automatic/electronic style powder throwers and believe the RCBS Chargemaster Lite will fit into my budget and needs.

Does anyone have any experience, thoughts, or comments on the Chargemaster Lite *OR* does anyone here have one for sale (new or used)?

Is there better to be had for similar pricing, noting the Chargemaster models seem to dominate the market?

One of my mates got one last year as a step up from a volume dispenser and he loves it. I haven't used one but i do love my chargemaster.

No experience with the "lite" but if my chargemaster died tomorrow- yeah i would be shitty, its only 5 years old.

But: I wouldnt hesitate to buy another.

I have the lite and have had no hassles with it whatsoever in fact it's been purrrrfect it throws the correct charge all the time and out of about 500 charges so far only 4 from memory have been 1/10 th of a grain out ,,,didn't know about the failure rate !!!!!! and I did heaps of net surfing before I bought mine as my hornady auto powder thrower was crap !!!!!!
Anyway I just did another search on line and found almost nothing at all regarding hassles, would I recommend it ? you bet !! just let it warm up for 5 minutes and you are away.

Without wanting to sound ungrateful: If it's the closed group I won't bother. Approvals from unknowns and/or extra passwords piss me off no-end. Happy to remain 'ignorant' in those cases.

The only so called issues I discovered related to a bunch of AR freaks dreaming up complex and wildly unscientific justifications. They then espoused a number of religious rituals to ward off those evil spirits. A lot of voodoo and old wives tales if you ask me, not a shred of evidence or science. The most likely cause of their issues related to assuming their old manual scales were 100% accurate to begin with...

No extra passwords for the closed group Raven. Didn’t realise there was another group by same name. I’m guessing Mark Savage set the second one up after he got booted from the first group (he was an administrator on the closed one).
I don’t have a charge master but I do have a Lyman Gen6. I got mine from Cleavers ‘on sale’. Does the job I need it to at a not so $$ price point.

I looked at the Lyman and the Hornady equivalents but feel the RCBS has the best reputation and wide spread use (not to mention price).

You can speed up the normal chargemaster but don’t go too fast or you just end up with overthrown charges all the time. A McDonalds straw is also a useful addition to the unit to assist in reducing over runs as well (on normal speed). Or so I’ve been told.

Been using mine for a couple of years now and it seems to be a powder granule selective as the courser the powder the more often it tends to over throw a charge. Rel 22 for example will overthrow probably 8 out of 10 cases only slightly, but it does overthrow. Where as the 8208 type powders will throw correct weight about 8 out of10. You still need to double check your loads, I will check mine about every 10 th load as sometime granules will spill onto the weighing plate and not into the cup which will alter the throw weight also make sure there are no drafts or fans operating near it as the air movement will also alter the balance weight. These are really good if you are doing any load development as you can alter the charge weight quickly and easily where the drop thrower needs to be thrown, weighed a couple of times to check if correct and then topped up with trickle feeder. once the drop thrower is set and throwing a correct charge it is quicker to load the cases but again you should check them regularly for correct throw weight. Same applies to the drafts with either electronic scales and balance scales.

I wasn't aware the speed could be adjusted and see no reason to go beyond normal speeds.

The Macca Mod does increase speed somewhat (so I'm told) but it's also said to help ensure consistent measures.

I just want to be lazy and have it magically measured at a reasonable rate.

I throw 2205,2208,2209 & Trail Boss with my Chargemaster. I have to adjust it slower for the Trail Boss.
