I found that the length of the rifle was more of a hindrance getting the rifle out the window than was the weight. The cz 527 in 204 is fairly close to "perfect" for a factory window varmint rifle. Pretty plain jane but gets the job done. Really like the stock on your new build. Were did you get it from? Look forward to your load development as I am just waiting for some warm spring weather to develop my new 20PPC. I would look at the 40gr varrmagaddon for a "just as good" and much cheaper bullet than the 40 v-max. 27.5 gr of N133 gives me 4100 fps with a 39 BT so your goal of 4150 should be achievable.

Well that makes me feel better 204 Hunter!
I have been trying to build what I consider an Australian Varmint gun or AusVarmint rifle.
I had people say weight dose not matter if you shoot out of the car but negotiating a heavy gun in the car can be a real issue.
It's all good once the gun is on the rest out the window but it's getting to that point can give you a Hernia.
Depending on where you put your gun in the car when your spotlighting a heavier rifle can make it real awkward.

This is what I have been trying till build from the beginning!

I will weigh it when I get back from me hunting trip.

None of your rifles (except the folding thing) are light, you should be use to the weight!!

Hi Roadkill

My first varmint gun was built by Gunsmith that builds target guns so that's what I got, truck axle!

The stock is a http://www.shurleybrothers.com.
I brought 2 from the US a few years ago from Accurate Shooter forum.

This is my second 20PPC!
I already have 800 40 gr V-Max.
My load for the first 20PPC was 27.5grs of BM2 that worked very well.
I will be using BM8208 with this one.
I have seen the speeds Missed gets with his using 8208, very impressive!

I brought two boxes of 39gr BT when I built the first 20PPC. After seeing the woeful groups Missed was getting with them I could not sell them quick enough!

I went through something similar,
204 #1 was a rem ss heavy varmint which shot well but I wanted something better.
204#2 was a stiller tac 30 in a mcmillan A5 with a fluted lilja 26'' barrel from PSECO which shot great but heavy to use when spotlighting.
204#3 is a sako hunter ss completely standard which I have been using for 5 years or so and for me it's close to perfect for the shooting I do.
I have been thinking of a 461 build in 20 cal of some sort....
Your new toy looks great and should shoot great too.
Snap, well close

my first was a ruger VT but "I wanted something better"

My second was a stiller predator in an A5 with a kreiger truck axle. Shot like stink but not comfortable off a vehicle

number 3 is my CZ 527 based 20 cal wildcat (nearly a Tac 20)

4 is a 20 dasher

Here's a pic of #2 - 204

Funny how I ended up with something standard which did the job better for me...

Maybe a carbon fibre barrel would have kept it in the collection

I really like that 204!

That's not funny, it's sad!

Nah, I'm just not a fan of carbon barrels, $1200 for a barrel is no good for the speeds I shoot!
I about to order another barrel to replace this one!
It just needed a smaller profile and a different stock and it would of been perfect!

Well Glen after getting my panties all wet over your stock, I visited the shurly website, After seeing the price of their stocks I will have to be content to just look at yours as their probably never ever be one under my barreled action. Wow 2 grand. A grs for "only" $800 " seems like a bargain. I will be looking forward to your load development with the 8208 as I could barley get 4000 fps( 25 inch ) with a 32 gr and 27.6 grs. Maybe the ppc case is big enough to drive the 40gr just as fast as you can only get so much powder down a given barrel. Twas the situation with my 20BR.

Yeah they are not cheap!
I brought mine secondhand and when our dollar was over yours!

Ok that is a little slow for a 32grainer.
I have only ever used 40gr V-Max in the 20PPC.

Ah yes the 20BR, 40grainers a little faster with more powder.

I will do load development as soon as I get home and post the results.

New Varmint Gun

There is a bloke here that could make you one Dean. If you were capable of finishing it yourself even with post it would be a lot less than 2k. He would just need Glenn’s stock to copy.

But that would be a really bad idea. Once I knew he had the pattern in his repertoire how long could I resist?

I've been thinking of a build to use as a out of the car rifle. I have a Tac30 i can use so needs a calibre that will be efficient out of a short barrel.
