204 projectiles

I'll second the heavier projies 39 and 40gn as I have also shot pigs with my sako 204.

Well guys i will defiantly give them a go and see what the rifle can handle.

Im not sure defiant is the right word there trevort.
I would say more curious. Always good to know what a rifle can and can't do.
You will never know if you never try.

Hi, anyone having blow up problem with Berger 50 and 55 grns HPBT projectiles blowing up been in contact with Berger and they tell me they are only designed for up to 3800fps. I have found that the Hornady 45 grn SP seem to hold together ok. Twist rate is 1 in 9 from a 20.250AI. Have tried some of custom made projectiles in 50 grn made from USA and they seem ok so far so long as I keep them below 4000fps. I am aware the AI will not give any better velocity over the normal 250 case, only a longer case life span, have checked barrel for erosion or faults, none.
Using 39 grn 2209 with fed 210 primer which is down loaded. Have a couple of the newly made 50 gr and 53 grain Australian made HPBT next time I go to the range fingers crossed I guess.

I got an email from Berger answering my question about blow up speeds stating 3400fps . Missed thinks he saw one of my pills disintegrate but I hope it was just a miss. Every other pill has hit. Going at 3830. The 53 gn copperheads have held together and I’ll try clocking the speed at the weekend

I've been using the 50's in my standard 250 for some time - havnt had any issues as yet. Running them around 3850 out of a 1/9 Lilja. Could push them harder but happy with the accuracy I'm getting.
I would be interested in trying those copperheads 53grs. I had contacted the guy sometime ago and he said he would send me some to try out. I will have to follow that up and see if I can get some.

I would have to say you must be right on the edge as I too got that same answer the Bergers will virtually turn to dust at any increased velocity than you are running. The cartridge is capable of more than you are asking of it. I was having a little time on the internet the other night and was able to find out the names for these wild cats which I thought may be just a "fatherless child", the 20.250 is called a "20 Wolfer".
The 20.250 AI is called the "20 Super Wolfer".
I personally feel that is a shame as they(Berger 55grn) certainly look the part but are virtually unusable in the area that the 20 cals excel in around the 4000fps. The Berger 50gr have been NLA for a couple of years now.
I have not had the same problem with the 32 grnNosler or the 45 grn Hornady projectiles so can only conclude it is the softness of the Jacket or the the way they are made. Only guessing on that one though.
I have a couple of the 53 grn to try out so hopefully I will be able to get the results I am hopeing for.

As I indicated, I'm happy where the standard 250 is with the 50's. I have a good supply of these which will see out this brl and a few of the 55's as well just to make sure. The amount of shots I put through it, it should last me out. Is it practical - no, but where's the fun in practical.
Would I do another one - yes no hesitation. I still have the reamer sitting in the shed and it's only been used once so should have a few more brls in it. Its probably the most used rifle in my collection at the moment and the most accurate.
Yours must be a real beast, to say the least. When you get around to trying those 53's, I would be interested in seeing your results and I'll see if I can get hold of a few as well. Good luck with it. Cheers tp.
