I would say a 270 is more gun than you need. Unless you find the big armour plated deer that haunt the Vic high country, a 6 mm will handle all you mention. A 6.5 will handle the bigger ones more emphatically

Probably more gun than I need here in S.A. but you never know I might find a very lost sambar in my travels

Give you a reason for something bigger.
Could always just go a 7mm Rem Mag or Weatherby Mag.

Re: Winchester XPR 270win thoughts?
Ok guys probably going to be a 6.5 or a 270win.
Chances of me going interstate chasing sambar are not likely so nothing bigger than 270 is needed.
260 and Creedmoor at least are similar.
Creedmoor is becoming more popular so prices of ammo should eventually fall and more choice of factory rifles.
260 has a slight advantage in the velocity stakes and if you reload similar in price as the Creedmoor
270 has more readily available ammo but maybe not as accurate as the 6.5s and also available in multiple brands.
I know a lot of you guys build rifles.
what are the costs involved in building say a 260rem and rough price?
Cheers Bob

Do you reload? If you do and now your looking at 6.5’s it would be remiss of me not to suggest a 6.5-300 Wby.Shep25 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 6:02 pm Ok guys probably going to be a 6.5 or a 270win.

Either a Mark V or Vanguard Wilderness would look great in the safe.

There are a couple of nice 260rem on there.
Think I am starting to come round to the 260rem rather than the Creedmoor and 270win.

Re: Winchester XPR 270win thoughts?
Thanks trevort, probably just a thought but yes I think I will go with a production rifle.
Thinking maybe 260rem.
You guys can be very persuasive and make sense.
Hopefully now i can find a good rifle.
