I am about to rebarrel my rifle from 6BR to 308 so I can start shooting FS. What are the best choice of barrels and what twist rates? Out of the Sierra, Dyer and Nosler 155 grain projectiles, which would be the best to use? I am going with the Lapua cases and Fed 210 primer to begin with. What powder would be the best choice and at what weight area, keeping in mind that we can only use the allowable ADI powders?
Does anyone have any info on recent Queens winners as to what gear was used. This info is not readily available anywhere I have looked.

Mate for F standard you will need a 1:13 twist barrel and brand well theres plenty, talk to your gunsmith (Lilja, Kreiger, Maddco etc etc)
As for ammo you can only use the 155 SMK's or Dyer nothing else is allowed. I load 46grns 2208 but you really need to work out your own load start at 44 grns and go from there. ADI have a number of powders that work well in the 308.

Hello Peter,
My opinion is.
Go for heavy (No 7 profile) 28inch 1/13 or 1/14 twist BR type barrell, Maddco, Lilja, etc. Get a 'proven' gunsmith to do the work for you. Work up the loads from 44.0 grains of 2208 until you have good grouping at around 2900 - 2950fps. I am using 46.4 grains 2208, but what works best in my rifle may not in yours. You will need this velocity to get you to 1000y reliably. Of course, look for excess pressure signs as you go. I like sierra projectiles, they work well. I have found more favourable results with Fed210M primers. Lapua cases are good.

You're never gunna get any of that info sitting out in a coal mine, you are actually going to have to get to a range and shoot and take a rest from carrying all that cash to the bank. No wonder you got a crook back. So much for the early retirement to the centre of the universe, well Victoria anyway. Does this mean i can have my 6 BR barrel back?
Grape vine down that black hole must be good. The Nosler is the pick, SMKs and Dyers are variable in their measurement at best from batch to batch. Dave Kelly has got them coming from Nioa at around $36 a 100 in 250 packs. I don't know what they will be through the NRAA. JR has been doing some bullet sorting with the SMKs recently for one of the countries top TR shooters, so he may chime in here with the part number. Best he's seen so he reckons. These are Sierra packed not the bulk NRAA stuff.
Because you built a dual purpose BR gun, the 30 inch barrel is not going to balance well, so like Ben C you are gunna have to have a short protest magnet. But reading between the lines since we last spoke, and if FTR is on at Bisley????, you are going to have to go with a bipod anyway. Pity about that harlequin paint job
Since i know you're going to ask, i have two chambers i can do. One is a 339 neck on a minimum dimension body. The other is an Obermeyer with a 344 neck and a rather loose body. Both are NRAA legal. Maybe next year if you're lucky. Gotta go, post more later.

Also a lot of shooters are browsers and not active on replying to forums. Most are probaly not even registered to post replys.
That out of the way,
a lot of us ( F class ) use 1 in 12, 1 in 13 twist, though 1 in 14 and 1 in 10 or 11 are used.
Barrel profile is probaly determined to stay under gun weight ( 8kg ) and balance so heavy varmint down to palma.
Barrels include Maddco, Tobler, Kriger, Shilen, Pac Nor, Schnider, Trueflite, Border, Gillard, anything your gunsmith might carry, also factory barrels.
Barnard actions are very common, but include RPA, Stolle, Omark, Rem, Savage ect, all types really.
If you shoot off a pederstal rest then TOOLEY MBR and clones are the most common, if a bipod then anything from factory varmint to prone target to specialist F class types. Laminated Pro Cal types are very common.
Lightforce scopes, Leupold, Weaver, Lynx ( and Tasco Super Sniper types ) all show up.
I bet theres heaps of peoples equipment that I haven't mentioned, I myself used a .308 Barnard, Schnider 1 in 12 twist Palma profile, attached to a Vee block bedded McMillan 50 cal light benchrest stock ( modified to 3 inch forend to suit latest rule change. Was 3 1/2 wide ) shot over a Simplex pederstal rest and custom Peter Armstrong ( australian ) rear bag. I used a Zeiss Conquest 6.5 - 20 X 50 scope in Burris Zee rings on a tapered rail.
