Learned something the other day about my newly acquired Sako AI 222Rem. My usual method when walking around the paddocks with one of my Sako 85's is to have the loaded mag inserted,the bolt open and rifle slung over my right shoulder. On my first walk with the AI I followed this procedure as well and all was good.

Going for another stroll I loaded the floor-plate mag out on the back patio and then hung it over my shoulder. Turned around to head off through the garden when I heard a "clunk". Looked down and there was the bolt lying on the bricks! Didn't realise that the bolt stop catch was so "easy". I'm thanking my Gods that it happened there at home and not out in one of the 5 hectare hay paddocks.

Will have to adjust my method now - bolt closed over a round. Cannot bring myself to walk around with one up the spout with a closed bolt.

That's the one. Will give it a run as is for while but as I said before - it's gnawing away.

Antsa just check your bolt release spring is not broken or has some shit in it.It is easy to remove with a flat head screw driver.I have had Sakos for over 30 years and have never had a bolt fall out

Yeah I spose you are right, I was using fresh bait, seems I should be using old stale smelly bait.

Antsa, I did the same thing 35 years ago in the hills in Mudgee and didn't realise until I went to take a shot , backtracking we found it in a clear running creek about a foot deep , when I took a large step over the creek it dropped out

I don't remember that yarn Trevor but its a winner whichever way you look at it.

Firstly if it was accurate advise its a winner

Secondly, if its a piss take he would have dragged the usual AHN suspects along like a slipping anchor
