Portland, Vic BR match
G'Day All,
well off to do battle at Portland this weekend, Light & Heavy Varmint BR at 100/200yds, home late on Sunday night.
Hopefully we'll not discrace ourselves, but new rifle, new front rest, and only competed in the last Nationals over the last 2 years who knows!
I'll post a match report, probably a weather report although the weather sounds like it will be nice and sunny. And some photo's of course!

G'Day All,
well back from Portland, wind conditions were challenging enough with some big groups shot but some tiny ones too. Nevertheless it was a struggle to keep your groups at 100 under 0.3moa and at 200 anything less than 1" was good going, many groups showed 3-4 shots into a tiny little bug hole with the wind blowing the other 1-2 out by 0.5" at 100 or up to 2" at 200 and with little or no indication from the wind flags showing why it happend. A real struggle for survival. I might of done better with the F class rifle!
Remarkable groups were Brian Dunn with a 0.105 in LV 100yds and Lee-Anne VMeurs with a 0.282" at 200yds HV, even more surprisingly was the rifle she used, a 6BR with speer 70gnTNT bullets, go figure!
The wind flags in white were made on the Thursday in 3 hours, no balancing weights were used, and now I think you dont really need it. They worked very well. SO GO MAKE SOME FLAGS GUYS AND SHOOT SOME SMALL GROUPS!
I have the full results if you want them and they should be on BR Bulletin site soon, highlights from the results are:

Overview of the range
Enclosed firing line, much bigger than before, spectators are now out of the weather and below
Reloading rooms, very nice on a winters day!
The firing line of 15 benches
And some groups showing good ones and weather reports!
4shots into one little slot, but if only......
how it should be done!
That bloody wind!
200yd groups
The best I could do at 200.....
aah again what if........the story of the weekend.
Note a tuned rifle has no vertical in the groups, bipods can cause vertical though
Anyway, enough misery, we had a great time, the pub on the Saturday night was a hoot, fuelled by several bottles of red and much BS. The highlight of the weekend...that and 3rd in Hv and placing 4th in the 2gun after a lousy start!

G'Day Kenny,
the Portland crew always put on a great shoot, lots of hospitality and fun, nice relaxed shoot with one detail.
The rifle shows good potential, 30.5gns BM2 moly elfs, might be a bit hot! I'll have to do more testing and with some Vit133/BM1/06 etc. But yeah looks good and an old used shilen to boot! It was beginning to feel like it was an old friend I was re-aquainting with by the end of the weekend. Still got a new one to fit & use yet. Whoo-hoo!

G'Day All,
thanks for the congrats. We'll have to go to some bigger shoots and see how we get on next year. The next few months will be more testing and practice because with a bigger field it will be so much harder to place and often it is decided by a couple of thousandsth of an inch, sometimes less than a thou. Its very cutthroat in say the Australia Day matches in Canberra; all the good shooters, their best gear, and tough conditions makes for a mini nationals.
I've had a promising start and with some hard work, I hopefully I can get there.......
Trev, I've got a spare BR rifle you can play with at Lt Rvr one day.......
BTW, I hope to have all the details posted this week on the AusVarmint get together on the 16th.......

G'Day Rinso,
Sorry mate its a keeper, the old Hall will remain as a SP/LV rifle with a 6x47 screwed onto it for F class (O).
Many years ago I was loaned a Rem600 LV to start with and ended up owning it. I reluctantly sold it to pay for the Hall. So I decided if any new shooter who was keen and serious down here needed a rifle to get started with, they can use the Hall until they can afford their own BR rifle and gear.
