Sportco .250 Magnum

Post by Branxhunter »

Saw this advertised:

http://www.ozgunsales.com/listing/51957 ... 32694.html

So what exactly is it? It looks like a Mauser action which I am sure Sportco never produced, so that tends to suggest a Sportco barrel on a Mauser action. Perhaps an old 303-25 barrel?

Which then leads to the question as to what it is actually chambered in - a wildcat? A .257 Wby? Without a chamber cast we will probably never know.

Very vague memory of something called 250 Magnum, 303.25 improved ? Cant remember, too long ago. No way I would classify that as "good". Just a Sportco barrel screwed into a military Mauser with the bolt handle turned down. Was probably a pretty flash rifle and chambering in its day. :D

There was a 250 Harrison Magnum from hazy memory. One rimmed, one rimless with lathe turned rims.

That rifle could be any permutation or combination given the variation in the 25cal 303Brit wildcats.

Bill Harrison's 303 wildcats were the only ones that used the word 'magnum'.
Cheers...

Sounds like a perfect rifle and chambering for you Mark - a left field quarter bore in a clunky old Mauser. With the Myra Brno and 25 Camel Zasty you will have the complete set.
