And now I have a "Safe Princess"
Some of you may have noticed earlier that I have been in the process of getting a 204 ruger, due to a good tax return I got.
Any way I went with the CZ527 classic. When I picked one up the stock fitted me like a glove, the action felt solid, and over all it just felt right so I fell in love and HAD to have one!
Any way I spent the best part of a week visiting various gun shops looking for a CZ527. After fruitlessly going to three different gun shops I called Safari and they had some (sadly in 223) in stock.
Initally I wanted to get the heavy barrel (ok, varmint if you must) but once I got my greasy mits on the Classic I had to have it so I worked out the deposit details, and picked out a bipod, a set of dies, a spare magazine, and a 100 pack of 39grn blitzkings.
Five minutes after leaving the shop I got a phone call from the shop. Bad news, they said Olin wants $100 more for a 204 ruger For some reason those 20 cal tubes must be more exy to make
Although to the credit of Safari they did kick up a stink with Olin about it and they made sure that I got a rifle with a really Gucci stock
I then went home and immediately filled in one of those oh so painful PTA's and put it in the post first thing next morning.
I later went to my usual gun guy and got him to order me some remmington 204 brass, which I put full a full length die and trimmed while waitng to get the rifle for a measurement from the lands.
Fast forward a few weeks and I was still umming and ahhing over the glass so I took the plunge and went for a leaupy VX-III 4.5-14*40 with a varminter reticule.
Any way last Friday I got that wonderful bit of yellow paper in the mail, and my leaupy was due in the post from the Optic Zone on Monday, so I decided to hold off.
As normal I found a "sorry we missed you" card when I got home on Monday so I was straight on the phone to the courier company, which assured me it would be delivered the next day when someone would be home. Well no it didn't.
The scope did turn up the next day though
I managed to knock off a little early so I was straight out to pick up the new shootin' iron. At the time I didn't know that they had gotten me an awesome stock so I was pleasantly suprised when they opened up the box for me.
Any way here is some pics for you all to enjoy
And here is a pic under natural light
As you can see the stock is pretty flash, it just feels so warm. The bluing is deep and rich.
The mini mauser action is nowhere near as smooth as my Tikka T3 (in 243 of course) but comparing a Tikka push feed to a CZ mauser CRF is like apples and oranges I guess. That and I need to break it in properly.
The leaupy sits well on top and feels quite balanced. This is also my first rifle with a bipod.
I spent last night rolling some ammo for the CZ. Because it was my first time using Hornady dies I had some trouble adjusting the seating die, which resulted in four squashed shoulders. I did my usual 'ultra accurate OAL measurement", where I seated a pill out way too far and chambering it . Turns out my length to the lands is 62.67mm. Length of the magazine is 60mm, and usable length was 59mm.
I then loaded up 20 test loads, using load data from Hornady, ADI and "uncle nick harvy". I loaded 5 each of 25.5, 26, 26.5 and 27 grains of AR2206H with a Federal 100 primer.
I cant wait to get out to the range and have a shot!

Seriously tho Mevo, that's a nice looking rifle, and it is a really nice piece of timber. Can't wait to hear how it shoots.

Lovely looking rifle mate and top choice of scope. That little CZ action will smooth up really nicely also, just need to sit with it and work the action a couple of hundred times, you will feel it getting better as you do it - those things only get better with use.
Really impressive stock for a factory rifle, love that tiger-stripe, I would be happy with that wood on a custom rifle.

For some reason I am getting a few offers to go to the range or for a shot ever since i got this rifle
I normally go to Jansas, mainly because of convenience because he is so close compared to the other gun shops. Ray might not have every bit of gear in stock but he will get you what you want in a reasonable amount of time.
It took almost twice as long to get to safari than it does for me to get to jansas.
That will possibly change in the next few months though, as I am up for rotation at work in January and I might end up moving to the foot of the mountains, to the inner city, or *shock horror* the northern side of Sydney!
If so I will actually have to spend most of my cash on boring things like rent and food instead of toys
I was dealing with the older bloke who works at safari..... I can't think of his name at the moment though. It was Gary who went in to bat for me whit Olin.

Pretty wood which is not uncommon with CZ's . Have just sold mine in .22 K Hornet as too many little varmint rifles in the cupboard . You will be very happy with yours .
Suggest you pay a good gunsmith to clean up the trigger . For $50 they can be changed from fair to magnificent .
Try some Tetra Gun Lube in the action , particularly the raceways . Will make it slicker than you would think possible . Much better than anything else I have ever tried . Mine was just a little scratchy for a start too .
