Factory rounds

Its coming up to the point where im going to need some more ammo and I contacted the local co-op to see what they could offer (as well as saving me and 2 hour return trip to the city ).
And so they have come back with

All are 55gr
Remington PSP
Federal SP
Winchester super x JSP (this is what i currently using
Winchester 50 round value box

Anyone got any suggestions either way?

I used a box of Federal once and it shot the same POI as my normal ammo, so I was very happy about that.

Personally, I like the Outback Australia or Buffalo River stuff (both are very very similar). The most cost effective way to buy them in the 200 round ammo cans. The 55gr Sierra Blitzkings are brilliant in my Ruger.

If you're limited in supply, any of those listed should be fine.

Was it the Federal Eagle in the black box? If so, that's the one I tried and found quite good.

The White box Winchester 50 pack, I've found are pretty good used them mainly on Roos, foxes and pigs, so not long range varminting and wouldn't guarantee their fine accuracy out past 250+. Other winchesters I've used have been very good too.

Federals ive found were better for consistent accuracy at longer ranges, over the 50 pack at least.
Never tried Remingtons so can't comment.

I'm running OSA stuff now with 55gn hornadys and highly recommend it if you can get it in bulk. I tend to buy for volume shooting so price does come into it. The price of the OSA stuff has made me wonder why I bother reloading 223 now.

Should add if you're thinking of keeping the cases for reloading, I found the winchester cases better than the federals for this.

I think he's building his brass supplies first

He's trying to build a bank of brass since he started with naught - and supplies are limited down here in the island as to what he can get and from where.

It's a trip into the big smoke for ammo/powder etc from the gun shop, but the local rural supplier has said can have certain things shipped from their other stores in TAS for about $15-20 freight per go.

The last time he bought brass we got a great price on the Winchester supers, because they were collecting dust and the local Elders was getting out of stocking ammo other than buckets of 22.

The idea is to build up a bank of brass when factories can be obtained at a good rate, and then reload when they can't.
Got to remember he has this scots-blood missus...

He wants to be like that bloke in the states where they found his bunker with 7t ammo after he died....

And I'm still waiting for my 22-250!

If you are collecting the brass for reloading, and you are happy with the Winchester, I would be tempted to stick with it so that my brass is the same brand.

Different brands of brass can have different neck thicknesses, etc, so consistency of brand can help. And if you split a neck, you will know it is time to anneal the others.

Probably won't make a huge difference in your situation, but worth a thought.

Yeah stick to the same brand. Do it properly. All your 22/250 has been neck turned and had the necks squeezed to 22 again. Just need to anneal and run thru the fl die to finish. Approx 200 of them. I did one to finish to make sure I wasn't wasting my time and it chambers in the wife's t3

Na its alright Camel I'll just make do and burn through a bucket of factory shells as im sure gonna hat that,
Plus I wouldnt want to cause a state wide alert because some "used AMMUNITION" went by the post office

Sellier & Bellet 55gr SP should be under $20 a box if you can find them.
Hornady 55gr V-max ammo is available in a 50rd box for around $65
