Re: 222 and 50gn Z-max
Oh yeah, am also wondering why reloading manuals insist on only recommend loading the 222 to such low pressures, typically in the ADI books that I have, pressures are way down around 43,000 psi, yet things like 223 they bump up to around the 55,000 psi mark, some of the loads for the 221 fireball are higher pressure than 222 Got me stuffed. I guess this is one of the reasons that I just used them as a reference mark then go on to decide for myself. I imagine that others who have a lot less experience than most of us on this forum would take the written loads as gospel and then start to worry about going a couple of grains above the book max.

21g of 2207 in mine, 0.5g over adi max, could probably go higher but it's accurate so I have never bothered,
Same brass, cci br primers

Re: 222 and 50gn Z-max
thanks bloke, I'll be giving it a go somewhere around there Last time I loaded 222 ammo was in my old Rem788 that got traded in on a Mini14 ranch rifle in 222, one of the dumbest purchases I ever did. That was in around 1984, so its a while ago now.

Re: 222 and 50gn Z-max
Hijack but I think camel has the info he was looking for, what loads are people using with 2207 and 40g vmax/zmax?
Re: 222 and 50gn Z-max
I am using the 40g Sierra pushed along by 22g of 2207 for a speed of 3520fps over the chrony. Had previously used the Nosler 40g Varmagaedon pushed along by 21g of 2207 for a modest 3108fps.tripledeuce wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2017 11:34 pm Hijack but I think camel has the info he was looking for, what loads are people using with 2207 and 40g vmax/zmax?
The Nosler load was started before I got a chrony and was .4g under max. and was kind of shocked to see it going so patiently over the chrono when I got the chrono.
Do have a box or two of the Hornady 40g'ers in the cupboard to use next.

Bloody interlopers. Where are the hurt feelings reports, reports to moderators, at least you should get a sin bin for a couple of days for hijacking my thread.tripledeuce wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2017 11:34 pm Hijack but I think camel has the info he was looking for, what loads are people using with 2207 and 40g vmax/zmax?

Re: 222 and 50gn Z-max
In my rimmed martini cadet i tried 50gr vmax first up before knowing it had a 1.16 twist and no hope of stabilizing them. I tried running them hot pretty sure 23gr of 2207....still didnt stabalize just didnt extract lol. 19gr of 2207 behind a 50 gr hp worked and 21 behind tipped 40s sure zips along. Have fun!
