Yes that was the goal but I had to work at it - with those rings the transition of the objective bell from angles to parallel to line of sight just hits the barrel. I have the next highest rings but they gave about 5mm clearance over the barrel which tends to pull my cheek up off the butt of the stock. The Raven wrote:That looks very nice.
Don't you love it when you can get the scope mounted that low it almost kisses the barrel?
I ended up shimming under the scope tube on both front and back rings with short pieces cut from a clear plastic water bottle (works well because they already have a curve, and don't react to moisture). The pieces only extend across the bottom half of the ring to ensure the scope tube is not pinched on each side.
I have used this approach before on other rifles - mainly .222s or similar. I don't think it is something I would want to rely on for a hard kicker, but then it would either be a hunting rifle with a scope with smaller objective bell, or a target/long range rifle with a higher comb on the stock and less need to get the scope really low over the barrel.

Nice job Marcus!
I am interested to see the speeds you get.
Barrel profile is good as well, there seems to be a lot of people getting light profiles to save weight.
I prefer a bit of weight for more stability, even from a rest.
Well done.

Looking good Marcus.
Wish they still made those scopes.

Up to #600 grit now. The sun was shining and I had a spare half an hour, so dropped the metalwork into the stock and snapped off a few pics - here's one of them
