Remington brite bore

Hey all I was taking to a friend the other day and we got to talking about guns and cleaning them. He uses a aerosol can called brite bore made by Remington. He swears by it and he is one of those bloke who is a bit obsessive compulsive about cleaning his guns(he cleans his HMR every 20 shots). Anyway just wondering if anyone else uses this stuff and if so how do they do it?

My mate sprays this stuff into the bore, brushes and the this is the weird one........ Shoots it! He reckons that it blows all the crap out and this shot is also very inaccurate but afterwards it shoots great. Now I think he uses this method of cleaning for all of his guns. Not just the HMR as he was talking about doing this while shooting roos off a crop every night for a couple of months.

Now I have my doubts that is cleans the bore as well as a decent cleaning using "normal chemicals and methods but I reckon I will give this stuff a crack in my hummer and see how it goes. Just wanting to make sure it will not stuff the barrel.

Well I dunno Plowboy but I would be a bit worried about fireing any rifle with anything in the bore at all.I ring in a Stevens shotgun barrel years ago on a Roo drive while it was snowing.

Yeah that's why I thought of the hummer instead of the .223. He does put a bore brush through a few times but does not patch at all and does it with a .308 lever action rifle. I have shot goats at 300m+ with it so I know it's accurate.

I googled Rem BB but could not find instructions any where that said to shoot it out.

I would think Remington anticipates a 'spray and wipe' approach. Not running a patch through the bore could lead to a nasty surprise if too much of the cleaning agent is still there...

I thought brite bore had abrasives in it to help scrub out carbon in the barrel. In which case I wouldnt be shooting it out. I may be wrong about this product.

Saying that..... I have my current krieger 308 barrel absolutely humming and I ran that in by running a wet (not dripping) patch of trefolex cutting oil down the bore after cleaning before shooting the next shot.

Im over cleaning barrels. This krieger has 97 shots down it since the last clean and its still shooting awesome. WA's best F classer would have put 140 down his barrel in the WA long range champs and his gun was performing fine. He did clean it afterwards though, so Im guessing his bore scope showed a fair bit of carbon in there. Im planning to clean mine after 700yds at swanbourne on saturday. I dont think this would be possible in a hunting gun with a factory rem, tikka, savage etc barrel though.

Might have to take a few pics through the bore scope and put them up on a thread showing fouling progression. Would be pretty interesting.

I generally clean my tikka about every 100 shots or every couple of weeks. I generally shoot it every second day and come around with me every time I go around the farm so probably a little different to most others on here. I didn't shoot it today but shot around 20 shot yesterday (it's wet and I am a bit bored!). Because I am not using my rife to shoot at targets I cannot say how many exactly I can shoot before accuracy starts to come down. It could be me missing the fox, rabbit etc. or it could be the rifle. I generally don't get the time to clean it every time I shoot it and don't see the point in cleaning after 1 shot.

I've used it for drilling and tapping but not on firearms!

IPads don't do cut and paste too well but basically says by weight it's 40% petroleum distillate, 36% mineral seal oil and 20% propane. What the other 4% is I don't know.

Just something a mate and I tried. Its a tight bore 30 cal barrel and took a long time to run in. We tried various products to get it run in and not fouling up like it did- autosol, iosso paste, trefolex. In the end it got there fine just took a while.

Haha yeah thought that as well when I read it but its a very refined oil product used in many things as a solvent.

Found a bottle of this stuff in my box of cleaning gear so I dug up this old thread.

Anyone know how good it is on copper?

I have a candidate to test it on while waiting for the gun shops to reopen tomorrow...
