Having a crack at dressing up an old scope

My old Kahles 6x42 scope is a bit worse for wear, rusty, patchy bluing, anodising worn around the lens locking rings, going to have a crack at giving it a bit of a dressing up. Started sanding the tube back after winding the lens locking ring on the objective out to leave a gap between the steel tube and the alloy locking ring, wound the ocular back as far as possible without it coming off.

should have took a photo before I started work, but didn't but have now taken a couple after spending 20 minutes on the 400 grit wet and dry.

Lots of rubbing and polishing to do, then will follow up with a few coats of Birchwood Casey Perma Blue.
I don't know what I will do about the rubbed anodising though, guess I may just patch it up with some gloss black paint. Or if anyone has any suggestions of fixing it, I am always open to suggestions.

Doesn't Birchwood Casey make a blue that can be applied to alloys? I vaguely remember it comes in a pen/texts.

Progress report number 1:
Got stuck in with the 400 grit wet and dry, then 600, then 1000 and finally 1200, came up nice and shiny. Hit it with the degreaser in the kit, then a coat of perma blue, rinsed down with cold water and polished with lambs wool, then degreasing and bluing for a second time. Will leave it for now, but its coming up nicely and with another 4 or 5 coats, should be nice and deep bluing.

Happy so far.

Time to buy some worn out scopes, do the "reco-black" treatment and sell for twice the price

I was tempted to buy a stack of rusty old Lithgow 22s and give them a quick refinish with cold blue and tru-oil then sell them off to the unsuspecting.

Do them as a batch and it may be cost effective. LGS had a heap...

Camel can fit scopes to my reco-Lithgows and we can convince New AusVarminters these are classic tactical sniper 22s.
