Just cause he shoots it often doesnt mean he can shoot anything with it.

The Weatherby is a touch above my price point but the 270 is OK (although I hate that stock finish)...
Make him an offer, say $1700 and see how you go (on the 340Wby).
Or try on this .308 for size. 22 inch heavy barrel and Bell & Carlson stock.

The world is your oyster.

Camel's Ruger 7x57mm for around 800 bucks with dies and 100 cases posted would be perfect.
Well good onya Trev, thanks for that mate.
Raven, just think you could get this rifle in a calibre that has taken on the might of the British empire and kicked its arse for it.

I really appreciate all the good suggestions and sly sales techniques but remember I'm only dreaming at this stage.
Sounds like it's better to try reloads first before lashing out on another rifle.
Now this will sound like a silly question but is it worth rebarreling a Marlin (JM) from sporter to varmint? I've no idea what it might cost...or if anyone bothers with it.
It's rumoured the Marlin will supposedly take Savage barrels as it uses the same barrel nut system, but I suspect it just means they use a similar system?

Raven ever since finding that tikka I've been thinking of a 284 reamer, a kickin trigger and a muzzle break as the perfect Buchan spotlighter.

No harm done. I never realised how keen everyone here is to spend other peoples money
