Well I guess only you can decide that one mate. I reckon you have more pressing calibre gaps that need filling, something like, oh I dunno, a 7mm maybe Mini, if you could call him that these days, wont let you use the VT these days, but you do have the 20PPC which I know for a fact does a pretty good job, just dunno if there is that much difference between it and the BR.

G'day All,
I reckon for hunting and longer range work the BR case has it nailed. It will fit most common bolt faces, larger case for slower powders and heavy bullets. It will do everything a PPC will easily, but it hasn't yet knocked off the 6ppc in Benchrest.

There is a lot more difference than you think.
For what its worth I tend think PPC up to 300 max and BR beyond
That said for hunting purposes both do the job and critters are not going to complain they were shot with one rather than the other.

Want some confirmation here's something to ponder

Short Range Benchrest 6PPC rules the 6BR ran second in that race a long time ago
Long range Benchrest (and F Open) 6BR is miles ahead of the PPC and yes folks have tried PPC at long range
6PPC with about 70grn bullet to 300 ... wins ...use a 105 at 500 loses to 6BR
6BR with about 105grn bullet 500 and better ... wins ... use a 70 at 200 loses to PPC

Been a lot of very good shooters try this using the best kit available with pretty much the same results .. has to mean something hey

G'day All,
I absolutely agree with Rinso in the 6mm versions.
However, I was thinking of the 50+ gn in a 20BR. A slower powder in a smaller bore I think makes a good deal of sense as you can probably get more out of it than a 20ppc. Not heard of anyone doing a 50gn 20ppc, there might be a good reason.
With heavy bullets I believe a slow long push can get them up to good speeds without (fingers crossed) burning out the throat plus the inertia of a heavy long bullet (and extra friction from the longer shank) has to be considered too.

I tried the 50's in the 20ppc thanks to gjs but In retrospect I used the wrong powder and velocity was well down and the trajectory suffered

I went down to 32' and 34 and while they were fast and flat out to 300 odd metres
As velocity dropped so did the projie

I found 40's at 4100 fps flat fast and accurate.They provide better than acceptable performance out to 450m
Devastating on cuddlies and hold wind remarkably well.

I used the 6x47l on longer shots and this was a whole another world.But the bigger case pill combo created more barrel flip which when shooting with a spotter is not a problem on your own it was a PITA.Hopefully the 20 br with 50's should give me similar trajectory performance with less barrel flip so I can self spot

As for powder I currently run 8208 in the 20 ppc.This should give me a reasonable start point for the br case.

The BR will hold its velocity longer and hit harder
PPC may be more accurate at shorter ranges

Same story as the 6mm really

And again a critter is not going to notice the difference
