Re: Toying with getting a new toy
if you are firing a light hunting rifle that is sambar legal its going to jump. Its only your technique that will control it.
Weight reduces jump but wont eliminate it in a sambar legal caliber. Its still technique. You need a muzzle brake to tame it to varminting (like 243 ish) rifle type jump. Have you fired Marks 7mm?
But a big rifle with brake is going to make you unpopular if lots of shots are fired in company.
Next time we go why don't you try a few of the arsenal that seems to accompany us and set up a target for practice off the ute as they get used rather than off a bench?

That's not being rude, it's just the first step of negotiations.

So mostly to be used out of mobile facilities and preference for not jumping too much. Ok.
This could work.

Re: Toying with getting a new toy
If in mexico then non of the 6.5s are legal for Sambar but I can't see much difference between a modern swede with 140s and a 270 win.
308 already legal sounds about perfect????
Neds suggestions look about right or keeping it in the 308 family 358 Winchester or 338 federal, I'll neck your brass up to 358/338 if you want? or can send the die and rods to do it. I did 6.5 to 358 in 3 hits very easy compared to trevort necking down
But seriously easy to neck up same for 338/06 but these might require a build but the 358 will hit hard out to 300 metres. To compare also a 180 grain in 338/358 can be pushed faster from the same case than in 308. Yep its true

Damn Trevor, what an excellent idea. Use someone else's rifle and ammunitiontrevort wrote: ↑Fri Apr 07, 2017 10:49 am if you are firing a light hunting rifle that is sambar legal its going to jump. Its only your technique that will control it.

Seriously, I may have to try that.
Yes, the Marlin is a bit light being a sporter. I was hoping that replacing the plastic stock with a Boyds might have tamed the jumping a little (I didn't expect it to totally go away).

Re: Toying with getting a new toy
I just stumbled over the new Ruger Precision Rifle. Not quite what I'm looking for but it seems to be very well priced for what it is.

I fired Harbs colt at a missedathon. A factory rifle I lust after. Loved the solid feel of the metal chassis.

Ok I've just had a look. I think you should buy the 6.5CM and let me play with it

Re: Toying with getting a new toy
The Weatherby is a touch above my price point but the 270 is OK (although I hate that stock finish)...dashooter wrote: ↑Fri Apr 07, 2017 11:45 amThat's not being rude, it's just the first step of negotiations.![]()
