Toying with getting a new toy

Post by The Raven »

Don't tell Mrs Raven but I'm looking at getting another rifle...

Not being an expert on all things firearm related, what's the group recommendation on a Sambar rifle?

I'm thinking 270Win in a varmint rifle, because that's the minimum in Vic and (like Trevort) I'm no svelte mountain goat)....

30'06
Load heavy (ish) for big varmints and lighter for smaller.
More of a wide range of projectiles in 30 cal too.

I'm probably not worthy or capable of getting the best out of a build :(

Yep, the thought crossed my mind but no-one has made me an offer I can't refuse

I don't think Sambar would notice that extra .007 :rifle:

you've got a 308 yeah? if you do the step up to something like a 270 aint that big and I would make the jump a bit bigger if you can handle the recoil to something like a 300wsm, 300 winfag 7 rem mag or 7x57 etc.

Forgot about that - a capable caliber too, like any put the pill where it needs to go and animals fall over dead.

Along with the plethora of magnums, what about a nice .280 Rem?
Different enough from your .308 to be your "big gun" with good BC heavy pills - without magnum blast and recoil.

what is this for? Buchan?

If you don't get the technique of bipod on the roof then you wont hit much.

If you do, then something heavy to absorb recoil makes so much more pleasant.

There are lots of fallow and foxes there, why not something like a T3 varmint or a ruger varmint in 260, 6.5x55 or 6.5 creedmoor if you want something different?

I'd go the swede

All round use. Some range work for practice and popping Sambar from vehicles.

Yes, my technique still needs some work but I am sick of pulling the trigger and having the rifle randomly jump all over the place. Probably more a case of the nut behind the trigger....

I'm dreaming at the moment so no real budget exists. Let's just say typical pricing, nothing over the top.

Of course I could be rude and say half of whatever Camel wants but I won't. :lol
