Bolt lift was fine on all but 1 of the 12 rounds I fired and it was one of the lighter loads so i can only think its due to a case variation. I'll meaasure up the cases and see how much more I can push them. There is room for more BM1 in the case. The shoulder is 0.010 further forward after firing so that could help as well.

Can you just go out and shoot a critter with it and take a high speed video please.Seddo wrote:My starting load was 4700 even and I knew it was going to be fun after that.

I havent shot critters in years but I had a chat to my brother tonight and I'll be taking this one out soon. Instant motivation right there. I think the 22 Cheetah will be in the same boat.

That is fast. I understand your need for speed. As a reloader and bullet swager I have some questions though,
In the pic with the seated projectiles; what is that bulge / ring just below the neck?
To get a .010" shoulder movement I gather that you were fire forming?
What is the practical range of the rifle?
Are all the projectiles holding together ?
How was the accuracy at that speed?
What were the PROJECTILE lengths?

What is the practical range of the rifle? at 4800fps its supersonic for 700y but it wouldn't have much hit when it got there. At 300y it will be just under 3000fps
Are all the projectiles holding together ? All 12 made it to the target at 50m
How was the accuracy at that speed? i didnt shoot any groups, i was cleaning every 1-2 shots and using a rest with a 5" bag when teh stock has a 2.25" forend. the aim of the day was to see how much the cases formed and what velociy i coudl get. next time i will load a bigger spread and shoot groups
What were the PROJECTILE lengths? what ever they came out of the box at, i didnt measure them

This morning I loaded up the cases I used last time, a few of the primers pockets were on the loose side so the cases didnt like the charge input in them. I went up to 27.4gr this time but fell short of my target, the best one was 4985fps. So close, I'll have to try again, I can't live with being that close. I had 2 of each charge plus a few to discard as the first shot over the chrono. I had 2 go through the same hole at 100y doing 4916 and 4921fps, it's a shame the pressure is too high for the brass as it shows promise. I might have to try lapua brass, there was some reports that Norma brass can be a bit soft.

Re: 17PPC
You are getting some impressive speeds there Scott, pity you missed 5000, but as the old saying goes, If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again.
Sako brass any stronger than Norma ??
