What's your preferred brand of primers?
As per the subject line I'm now fishing for thoughts on primers.
Knowing nothing about them are any brands better than the other? If so, in what way?

Re: What's your preferred brand of primers?
I just use Remington these days, 7 1/2 small rifle primers and 9 1/2 for large, though I do have a couple of hundred from years gone by that I have been using up when fire forming brass. I have never tested different primers for different loads, I reckon there is enough confusion between different powders and projectiles. I have never had any trouble with Remington primers no matter what size.
Re: What's your preferred brand of primers?
Rem 7 1/2 small and Federal large, no real reason other than that was what I grabbed when I first started with either large or small and haven't had any issues so that is it.

CCI large rifle, CCI small pistol and Winchester LR magnums (cause that what I can get consistently).

use rem 7 1/2 br for hi pressure rounds like 204 (when I had one) thick cup handles pressure.
Also use cci br4 and federal gold medal match.
Doesn't really matter what you choose as long as you stick to the formula of the load you develop (ie don't chop and change)

Federal gold medal in both small and larger rifle, pretty much the first ones I bought when I started reloading and never had a drama, so stuck with them

Have stuck with Rem 7 1/2 & 9 1/2 for the last number of years. Never been sure if there was really a lot of difference though , except as perhaps what Trevort said.

Re: What's your preferred brand of primers?
I read a lot of stuff on this ages ago. Rem 7 1/2 br has the biggest flame and thickest cup. Thick cup is important for high pressure rounds. WSR primers pierced on starting loads when I started loading 204
Re: What's your preferred brand of primers?
I only use CCI BR4 & CCI BR2 supposedly they are made by the staff with the most experience so the compound is more uniform. Im chasing accuracy so cost is not a deciding factor.
Cheers Ken.

Federal GM Match in large and small
Federal Magnum
Remington 7 1/2 small when i want to push the pressure (federals give up sooner then remington)
From what i have heard the CCI BR primers are the ones a lot of 6mmBR /Dasher shooters use. I have a case but haven't tried them yet.

Re: What's your preferred brand of primers?
I might be over simplifying things but I look at primers a bit like spark plugs. For most users, as long as it goes off when it's supposed to very few would be able to differentiate the merits of one brand over the other. Even if there is a difference I doubt we'd be able to exclude all the other variables...
Of course I could be wrong, hence why I asked.

Have a look at this
http://www.6mmbr.com/primerpix.html
Not all primers deliver an equal spark and that's why there are variances in the velocity and es when you swap them.
