Can't get a HW97K anymore.

Missed: What sort of budget are we talking about? You'll be looking at 177 cal for FT. My suggestion will be the HW95 or HW77K. If you get it before the end of Oct, I'll even be able to pick it up on the way through to Nats in Canberra if you wanted it tuned. Or come and join us for the fun yourself. In fact, I reckon you should anyway. That way you could actually shoot tuned and untuned rifles to see the difference.

If kids or grandkids using one, then the HW50.

Shot my R9/HW95 in .20 a few times it was more than accurate enough but now gone to the hw97k tuned by Matt.

Food for thought

We had an Hw50 that was tuned by Lewis it was a lot of fun but now as the kids are growing they can cock it themselves.

I was thinking 20 cal

Bugger that you cannot get the HW97K.

When is the Canberra event on ?

.20 will greatly limit your ammo choices and will increase the cost.

For FT if it was me I'd probably go with a HW77KT in .177

Probably the HW77 would best suit your needs.

But personally I would get a HW95 in 20 cal, but I have a heap of 20 cal pellets. I had a 95 in 177 previously, great rifle, but I was using it on birds and rabbits which it wasn't so great for being 177.

My r9/hw95 in 20 was perfect for mynahs and rats tuned not for power but was very good shooter and now back with Lewis. Yes the 20 is limiting on brands but if the jsbs or h&n FTT dont shoot then it prob has an issue. The hollow point crow magnums were great for rats and mice and close range  .

177 is better for FT from my reading as haven't shot the 97 yet at a comp but main benefit is more velocity for less energy so flatter shooting.

Its one of those things fun now serious latter or always fun :D

I recall reading somewhere that some HW .20's had oversize bores and thus accuracy issues.

Lewis would know for sure.

The 80 is way over powered. The HW77K/KT is probably what you should go. Synthetic version starts at about $650 at Centreway. And in 177. Don't get me started on the Accuracy versus Power bullshit. Accuracy for me everytime. If you want power, go big bore PCP.

I've popped more bunnies with the Blue HW97K 0.177 than any of my PCPs. That baby is sitting at 11.2 FPE atm and I'm looking at taking it to mid 10s.

Nothing wrong with power of you can still place it well enough.

My Maccari kitted Diana 350 Magnum .22 is doing around 22ft/lbs and I can shoot it well enough to hunt bunnies with with the benefit that it will roll them with chest shots with RWS Super H Points.

That said....my tuned 13.5ft/lb FWB 127 is easier to shoot thanks to being smaller, lighter and having much less recoil.

The HW77 was pretty much designed exactly for FT back in the sports infancy and would be way to go in .177 IMO.
