Red Dot

Hi Gang.
Wanting to try one of those Red Dot scopes cos the front sight appears all bl.u.u.rey.
Plan to use it on the 357 or 30/30 Marlins for close work.
My question is.....
Older versions were made with longer tubes bit like scopes,now there're micro units.
Understand the longer units will allow ring use to fit rifles actions that Weaver style base don't suit and so on ,Micro units only use one base to attach and are compact and light.
Is ther an advantage on target acquisition between tube type over micro.??
Aim Point seam to be the leader.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.$600-1000 and endless battery life.
Bushnell make a micro version with 2moa.$200
Any of you guys had much to with any of the units and could suggest a entry level unit I could play around with that will not break the bank.????

TYB got one once and put it on a .22LR lever action. It was one of the lower priced (Redfiled/Bushnell type?) but not bottom dweller type and was useless. Looked horrible, seemed to sit up very high and we couldn't get enough adjustment from it to get on target.

Took it back and grabbed a fixed 4 x scope instead

Yeh, Aimpoints seem to be the king though and guys that use em tend to like em. Sorry haven't helped much

If you want to try one on the cheap eBay will have something for around $20. At least you can try one before laying out lots of cash.

Nothing's lost if you don't like it, but of course the better ones will cost more.

I have been running an Aimpoint H1 for three years or more and it has been an excellent performer; you get what you pay for, save your money, they really are the best with the widest variety of options.

For a cheaper option - I have read a few good things about the SIG Sauer Romeo 5, it may be worth looking into.

I've had a mini Lynx 3moa red dot on my 357 for about 15 years. Very happy with it. They have come ahead heaps and the aim point would be my choice from what I've seen. Don't go bigger than 2 Moa if you want to shoot further than 100 as the bigger dot obscures targets. Got a cheap BSA 4 Moa on my 22 wouldn't recommend it as it obscures bunnies at 50m, only good thing is it makes it easy for the young blokes to hit targets.

Not completely off topic but harking back to the Rat thread ......... at the time I thought about the Laserex 700 sight as being ideal for short range in dim or dark lighting conditions, only have to put the dot close to the rodent, the spread of shot takes care of the rest and no looking through sights to line up: http://www.laserex.net/shop/laser-sight ... er-sight/l

Interesting. Can you share some info on how you fitted the 'scope' to your Mosin? A friend has one and is struggling to figure out a suitable mount setup that doesn't involve any modifications.

Made up my own base that fits onto the rearsight base. Two pins on the rearsight come out and the rearsight leaf comes off, the mount base I made sits on the rearsight base and two long, thin bolts replace the pins and hold the base on. The base has a short Pic rail bolted to it.









4x32 pistol scope.



TRS-25 on my .20 Sheridan.
