Re: A pictorial
Been doing a lot of rubbing, drying, rubbing, drying, you get the picture, lots of repetitive stuff. Couple more photos
Still got a way to go, but it is nearly stopped taking oil now, 99 percent of the open grain is filled, next the wet and dry 1000 grit dipped in oil, then will alternate polishing and buffing, but that will be a couple of weeks away yet.
Impatience has never been my long suit.

Re: A pictorial
Looking good there THLD.
The big fella was sure that you would have had it back together and out in the field after only 2-3 coats!

Coming along rather nicely THOD and as Marcus said I am very surprised at your restraint either that or it is too wet out there.

Re: A pictorial
Yes fellas, I am quite pleased how its coming along. Marcus, the big fella has been coaxing me to keep going, although I will admit that I have weakened somewhat from my original desires with the outcome.
I will not give up, I will not give up, I will not give up, I mutter that to myself as I am rubbing, rubbing, rubbing, rubbing and waiting impatiently for the oil to soak in and dry. I am at the stage of only doing one coat every two days.

Re: A pictorial
Well, I have put it back together again, will do a couple more hours polishing at a later date, I am pleased how its turned out, realising that there are some jobs that you can only go so far on, this will do me, it is after all going to be used in the real world and not just a safe queen, knocks and bumps are bound to happen.
Right hand side, like this side the best
Not up to the Wood Whisperers quality, but as I said, I am a happy chappy.
Got a bit of oil and polish into the checkering, will have to clean it out at a later date.

Re: A pictorial
Some more photos.
LHS, the difference in the two side is pretty stark, one side nice and dark, then the other with a big lighter section in the middle.

Re: A pictorial
Then finally we have the obligatory all back together and ready to go for a hunt photos. Scope Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x42 German 4 reticule.
Forgot to mention, while I had the butt pad off, I reground the red bit back to what it should be, this was pretty bad at the top of the butt, I didn't touch the bottom part of the pad as its a bit hard to get the angle correct so the line of the pad taper keeps in line with the taper on the stock. It is only about 1mm where as the top was two or three mm. I can live with it.
Was getting a bit dark by the time I took the last photos, but it gives a good indication of how it all finished up.
