Re: been to the range.
the gunsmith in newcastle [who went to jail a few yrs back] fitted the barrel.
it sat in my brothers gunsafe [on the coast] for a few yrs before he gave the gun to me.
i use 45.5 grns of 2208 in win cases,i tryed a few cases with 46grn but the primers were severely flattened so i never went there.
do palma cases hold more powder ?

Re: been to the range.
No but they have more brass in the case head and can deal with pressure a little better than LR brass. CCI450's are also thicker cup primers too than regular ones. We used them straight away due to the size of the powder charge being sparked by the small primer. But a few guys have had good results with federal gold medal match primers. I think the fed golds, CCI BR4 and CCI 450 are the pick to use. Obviously each will tune different as wardy found out at our recent prize shoot. In his 6.5x47L he had a load that shot well with CCI 450's. He used fed golds in his 300yd range to start and it was woeful and cost him 8 points. Switching back to 450's and he shot a 60 straight up.

Re: been to the range.
That is interesting Sean as i ran up and well past the 47 mark in my omark and my brothers runs around the high 46's as well from memory. This is using cci br2's I think they are called and dyer/nosler projectiles.

Re: been to the range.
Remember we are using lapua cases. Winchester will have a different internal capacity and 47gr might be ok. Definitely wouldnt start that high. Someone told me last night he runs 45.6gr 2206H which we would never consider running in a 308 here. But his rifle does it and seems to handle it ok.

Re: been to the range.
lapua, rem, fed, milsurp and adi seem to hold about the same in powder, which is less than winni cases.

Re: been to the range.
Heard of a bloke who used 39gr of 2206 before it had an H with 168 sierras and somehow andes up with 49gr. Said it shot like stink but cases/primer pockets only lasted the 1 firing. Said sleeved action was fine. Do not know how true it is or if either load is any good

Re: been to the range.
dunno about 06 but with 08,46gr in a fed,rem or milsurp case will be over flowing.
atm im running 45.5gn of 08 in winni cases with fed lr primers and 155gn dias.

Yeah 800 here yesterday perfect weather next to no wind and mirage for the first stage 58.1 but a hollow group could hardly keep it in the 6 ring compared to the others who where shooting 60 and 59 with 7 or 5 x's. Second stage even worse 55.3, not happy at all considering the conditions. They were perfect. Got some berger fullbores to try and see if the hbc's are the cause.

Re: been to the range.
Maybe maybe not, the HBC's have a known bad batch so it is possible not to mention if I do shoot at the National Queens in Brisbane the HBC's aren't really good at a 1000 yards, and that was from one who has won in Brisbane.

Re: been to the range.
Well last night loaded up 4 at 45.5 and 4 at 46 grn's of 08 to test the Berger 155.5 fullbore's. About 50 thou jump as I don't have an exact distance to the lands only approx 46 grouped 3 into .472 but threw one high which opened up the group to .7 Shooting off the back of a ute so not the best platform. Anyway loaded up 24 for today's shoot at 900.
Wind was very light in the first stage but the mirage holy crap kept changing direction and speed. Took me my first 5 shot's to figure it out as the flag's were not showing the changes could only manage a 53.2 but the second stage did a lot better with 57.3. The most pleasing thing was not much elevation in the first stage and only 1 or 2 in the second lost to elevation compared to the multiple last weekend at 800 in better conditions but with the HBC's. Gonna stick to the Fullbores, getting a plate made up for my for end to make that more stable.

Re: been to the range.
1000yrds today...
absolutely farked it up.
would have had better luck with my ol mossy 22.
howlin wind, right to left and from the rear.
partly cloudy,so just when ya line up a shot in bright sun,a cloud would roll over.
couldnt get comfortable, just mucked up the whole shoot.
anyhow....couldve been worse....61
[couldve been a prize shoot ]
i think our club got a bad batch of those pills.tips cut crooked with a dag off the side of the tip.takes some cleaning off without messing them up.

Re: been to the range.
Yeah there is a definite bad batch. I still haven't had the pleasure or pain of trying to shoot at 1000 yards mate so your one up on me. That being said before I go to Brisbane in a month I am going to try and ring some steel here to be close to on target in the lead up.
What pills are you using HBC's or other???? The Optimus pills are sposed to be good, the winner of the Sydney festival won some and said they shoot well so the new ones are ok but I'm not going back now.
