What does your Weihrauch weigh?

Post by SteveR »

After spending a bit of time on the weekend with a hatsan striker I bought second hand for some cheap, open-sight toad dispatching, I really noticed how much my HW80 weighs when I grabbed it this week. Tonight I put it on the scales and it came in at 5.1kg or 11.24 pounds. So it's not just me, there's some truth to the stories of the 80 being a bit in the heavy side.

It's fitted with a pretty light hawke varmint scope, torch and a suede sling.

What do your HW97s etc weigh in at?

My beeman R9 (HW95) feels significantly lighter and it has a pretty large simmons scope on it.

It does make me wonder what the true heavyweights like the Webley Patriot would add up to with scope etc. That said, I think the HW80 breech block alone must weigh at least 500g.

Well, guess I'll inadvertently be doing some resistance training this weekend. It takes work to maintain this dad-bod after all.

Here it is in all it's heaviness.

What caliber is yours in Matt? Mine is in .20 and I must say that calibre really delivers.

The HW80 is in .25 which I do love for many reasons (easy to handle pellets, really lays the smackdown) but I also have a .22 barrel. Thinking I might swap it out at some stage for a bit flatter trajectory. At present getting ~675 FPS with 20 gn H&N FTT, which is respectable... but you need to be a bit cognisant of trajectory.

Picking up a .177 Sharp Innova tomorrow for something different.

I used to have a 177 Sharp Innova - man did that thing have some grunt with the Pemethius Pellet, it used to go through both sides of a 44 gal drum  and was amazingly accurate with open sights.

Steve,

My 95 is in .177 & is self tuned with the piston running on synthetic bearings at 11.8 fpe. With such low internal friction it has a pretty week spring.

I can literally cock the thing with one finger & it is as accurate a rifle as I could hope for.

Matt :)

I wouldn't bother with DIY tuning if I were you, try a v-matt tune instead. I know a guy who can sort you out.

Innova seems to work, it's quite a difference from using a springer - . Doesn't seem to hold air over long periods of time (i.e. I just had a rat lined up and there was no air left when it was go time :( ), but has been good for plinking over the weekend. Time for a new set of seals I guess. I can imagine that the sharp ace was a great deal, adding all-steel durability to the pneumatic rifle.
