94.3 @ 500yrds.
the wind was constant....right to left [constantly changing that is  ]
blowing hard on one flag, not on the other...butts flag hanging still...
then it would change flags and the shadows [clouds] would roll down the range... :x
but.....can only really blame myself.
there was more pulled shots than i would have liked.

seems the august gem shoot is qra/nraa only [sorry guys]

Yep I agree, I have beaten the current club champ, current MRDA optimus festival winner in bad windy conditions the only other F classer on that day to beat me was Geoff Willis the current NSW and ACT Queens winner and only by about 2 pt's.
Got told at the Canberra queens by one of the best F open shooters that he likes shooting in the rain as it gives a better wind indication by looking at the direction the rain is falling.
Similar experiences on my side, too. Once you accept that everyone will be struggling, the mind game gets easier. I once beat a very good silho shooter (regular state and national title holder) on a day that was blowing near hard enough to rip trees. It's the only time I have ever beaten him, and the only time I am ever likely to. But it was good to do it just once! :D

It's those days that make competing worth it!

It would be nice to shoot a centre fire match of silhouette knowing how much my cal get's blown around at 500 and looking at the flag a bit more. Just to see how many of those just miss's turn into just hits and spin them off their feet ;)
Well just like you lonerider I still have to improve my wind reading after the weekend. :(

Don't worry mate it was 900 yesterday and I shot a 49 and 51.1 for a total of 100.1 I even shot a 3 in my second stage, wind and mirage was all over the place so I had a shocker. Not a keeper for sure.

Two 4's and mostly 5's for an F Classer do not make a good score :( Definitely not a bloody keeper.
And I had been shooting the long distance's better guess I just fucked that one up

Least you guys got out. Been weeks since Ive got a chance to shoot and have an OPM this weekend coming. Practice makes perfect so its going to be interesting. Wardy has a new 7mm shooting pretty good apparently so will see just what I can pull out of the magicians hat.

Perfect practice makes perfect.
It is absolutely useless and probably detrimental practicing the wrong thing!

Our main problem is our clubs range has been closed by DoD for over a year now. The nearby ranges shoot 300-700 yds and 300-800m. Thats all well and dandy and keeping the trigger finger warm is good, but shooting alot of 1000yds makes you a much better shooter. And with the price of components its almost that shooting the short ranges is a waste of money- especially 300 where you do nothing but drill the guts out of a target. Thats why I put a 6br barrel on my rifle so I could use something cheap at club shoots and will make me work a little harder on windy days and longer ranges. Hopefully our range is back up and running by mid year so we can do some more shooting and get back to the level we were. I have booked airfares to the nationals in Belmont in June and sadly an unwanted change in jobs is probably going to ruin the opportunity to go. But in my mind a really do question, am I going to be prepared enough to go to such an event? That and Im really scared Rod Davies is going to destroy the little function my liver has left

Well Brad that is why I am going to drop 300 and even ask to drop it from our club championship so all the opm's are shot t 500 and 600 at the shortest ranges. Only because the national's are shooting it and I will hopefully have a new rifle with a better barrel so will need to work our sight setting's before the lead up. Brad are you going to shoot the lead up as well or just the Queens ????

At this point just the queens as I didnt want to use up much of my leave. Turns out I will either not have any leave at all or will still be job hunting hence why its still uncertain if I will be there.

Had a ripper weekend at Wurgabup Rifle Club. Great bush hospitality and great camping out with a fire at night and a nice warm bottle of port. Saturday mostly sunny with a bit of cloud at times that made a difference in sight picture. Left to right movement but often a lift of the flags on the left and shots went the opposite way. The afternoon we got a bit of wind at the front again as well. Today was switchy tailwinds all day and 1000yds at the end was brutal to alot of the FS and TR shooters, and a couple of FO guys as well with a decent score being anything over 54 I reckon.

Ended up 60.4 at 300yds, 60.5 at 500yds, 60.3 at 600yds, 60.5 at second 600yds for 240.17 at the end of the day and 3 points clear. Today was 60.6 at 800yds, 60.3 at 900yds and dropped my final shot at 1000yds for 59.5 winning the badge by 6 points.

The 284 shehane handled the rough winds beautifully. Tomorrow will clean both the barrels up and put them away for the next prize shoot.

Was a great weekend even with yatesy handing my arse to me big time. If I had loaded my ammo with the correct primers I probably would have faired much better.
