Re: been to the range.
Haha its all club friendly club banter. The other bloke shooting in the picture and I travel around a bit for shoots so we do it to each other to keep out heads in the game all the time. You never know when each other are going to start something. Mind you we do alot of shooting outside of the range and do alot of barrel cleaning and bore scoping, loading and load tuning together. He was really the mentor who started me in it seriously and now we bounce ideas and info off each other all the time.
Must admit its got that autumn feeling here at the moment. I know it was hot a week ago, and will be warming up a little over the next couple of days again, but mornings there is dew on the ground, had a little more rain the other day, mornings starting to get below 10 with day max in the high 20's... hopefully its a nice wet start to the year soon for those planting crops.

Yeah mate I hear ya I just put three paddocks down to oats to fatten our lambs. Its funny here during the day its getting up in the middle 30's and early morning need two blankets. would be nice to get some more rain as god we need some now. Picked up a Bushnell range finder last week and what I thought was further is really inside the omarks range bracket from my back door that is.

Re: been to the range.
We had 700 yds in overcast and light misty rain- plus a rather foggy head from too much beer last night... Funnily enough yesterday was really warm and we guess that the ground held enough heat to still give some light mirage just enough to see what was going on, but it wasnt warm enough today to give any mirage on its own. Managed a 60.5 first up burning up some old 284 shehane ammo, then next string dropped 2 shots due to mirage I just couldnt see well enough to decide it was running or not. Plus had to change from 180gr loads to 168gr loads halfway through that string which cost me another. Still should have done better but it was fun to get out and shoot and good to get rid of that ammo. After 100 rounds down that barrel since last time it got some abrasive love, it got a JB paste treatment this arvo and feels fantastic. No doubt it wasnt shooting bad, but not worth letting it get bad during a shoot where it matters more. Next few weeks will be shooting the 6BR more and doing a couple of shots down the 284 to have my short range zeros written down.

Re: been to the range.
Well it was back to 300 yards for us, weather was still hot and mirage well it was pretty twitchy, switching sides at will . Dumb ass me forgot my front rest so had to borrow a bi pod which I wasn't sure where they were going side to side wise. First stage shot a 52 which when compared to the A graders 55 isn't too bad. Second stage shot a 56.3 finally worked out that was shooting to the right so worked out the wind. Oh why couldn't I have remembered my rest

Well of course it was even a bad day on the range is better than a day at work or at home doing chores
Might have to look at a bi pod I seem to like the feel of it better than the rest. See what happens I suppose. All I can say is I can't wait for it to cool off and our range to get back to normal conditions. You know COLD Steady wind and right to left.

Re: been to the range.
Whilst it is 500 yards this weekend I have to do some load development work. Got some 06h to try out in the 223 and omark. Hopefully I can get a good accurate load that has a bit less pressure than my current, that I can use in Summer. Anyway good shooting peoples and have fun.

Re: been to the range.
300yds done and dusted. It doesnt matter what you shoot, if you drive it well then you will win the day. I shot a 60.9 with my 284 shehane (and got my elevation zero) then switched to the 6BR and shot a 60.5 to get the elevation zero on that too. A mate shot his hum dinger barnard 223 that has terrorized the 300yd/meter target for over a year. He often beats anything else on the line with it. And the bugger shot the same scores as me but finished on an X where I finished on a 6 so he beat me on a countback. 3x 120's shot today, 223, 284S/6BR, 6.5x47L. We came to the conclusion that we will probably stop 300 shooting as it does nothing but chew the guts out of the target. ET targets are worse than the manuals as it takes alot more work to repair layers of rubber and coreflute than it does a piece of cardboard or coreflute.

Re: been to the range.
our targets are cardboard with lino glued to the back, they stay together better than coreflute.
no score worth mentioning today.....

Re: been to the range.
Well 06h is hotter and not as accurate with those loads tried. Pressure is higher than what I am using, may have to switch back to the Winchester. Cases to reduce the pressure. Don't really want to but I don't want to be buying we cases as they're primer pockets get to loose. Lonerider we all have those days even the top shooters, don't sweat it it's all practice right

Re: been to the range.
Dont sweat it bloke, we have all been there. Give the gun a clean, check your reloads, make sure your jump/jam is still right. make sure everything is tight with the gun- action screws, sights etc, make sure your crown is still flashing clean (shows that its even and bullets starting free flight in the best way). Assuming your a sling shooter I would be getting to a 100m range and put a scope on the gun and make sure its grouping off a bipod and rear bag. Amazing how bad some of the sling shooters rifles perform when put over a scope, we got a few of them on the right path with load work and their scores went up.
Do as much work as you can to make sure its the gun and not you, then you know its only working on you after that point.
