Re: been to the range.
Yeah Geoff is trying FTR for that reason to go to Canada next year if he makes the team. He doesn't really like it as much as Std but it's an easier change over. I have thought about TR as well though I like shooting in B grade for now whilst I work it out.

Re: been to the range.
messed it all up sunday.
700 yrd.
very tricky right/left,left/right,up range strong to light wind and partially overcast.
only managed an 82.3
oh well...
next week is the claremont pairs shoot [which i wont be attending] but sounds like fun.
week after that we are back at the 300.

Not to worry mate at least you got to shoot I didn't. Hoping t go to Lithgow on Sunday which hasn't been a happy hunting ground for me, last time finished dead last. Still a day at the range is still better than a day a work.

Re: been to the range.
At least your shooting mate, we dont even have a home range to practice on at the moment, not until the coming financial year budget we will know if our range can be repaired.
Another thing I found. Try not to use club shoots for being too serious. Of course you dont go just to waste ammo, but I play around ALOT at my club shoots. Test seating depths, up 0.2gr down 0.2gr. Shoot one string on mirage, another on flag direction. Hold the gun one way for one string, another way for another string. Shoot when the wind is blowing, not when it drops off. Give your rifle a clean after the first string then see where your first shot of your next string lands vertically. Theres all sorts of things you will learn that will make you a better shooter when it counts.

Re: been to the range.
crikey brad... im still trying to read wind
i gave up on mirage for the time being
and i am still sorting out my kit and how to use it properly.
i havent reset my sights since upping the powder to 45.5gn from 45....so that takes some sorting
and i am still deciding whether to up it to 46gn... but thats for another day.
having fun and a play.....thats what im there for..i dont take it as serious as others
if i get to smell powder....im fairly happy with the day

Re: been to the range.
Playing around wind reading wise is always good too! Our range (when we were actually using it) often had periods of left wind and right wind during a string. Shooting on one, then letting it switch and making a call and sticking by it on the other condition was good as it gave you a sense of how far the bullet gets pushed around. Dont be afraid to make mistakes because if you try and do everything the safe way you will have nothing to learn from. Would be good to see some plot sheets of how you have been going?
I know a few 308 shooters swear by 46.2gr 2208 with either the 155HBC or 155.5 berger projectiles. CCI BR4 primers and lapua palma cases. If you shoot large primer brass and dont want to change to palma cases then 45.6gr 2208 and CCI BR2's is another on to try as well.

Wow I use 45.5 of 08 in my Omark and it's a little hot I can't go higher than that might if I had a Neilson or better action though. Oh well it was a starter rifle.

Re: been to the range.
This is in a rem action with firing pin hole bushed and also a barnard action. 30 inch krieger or maddco barrels. I couldnt do it in an unbushed remington with a tight krieger .298 .3065 barrel without pressure signs too. But this was small primer brass and it didnt affect cases as there was so much more material in the case head than the large primer cases.

Guess I need a stronger action though the old girl still has some life left in her. She completes well to 900 yards haven't taken it out further yet will have to try and get to the long range meet this year if I can

Re: been to the range.
Long range is where its at. We have a prize meet coming up soon that is only to 600m. 9hr drive away too. Only reason Im going is because there are a couple of guys from that club that travel to other shoots. I would prefer to shoot 700, 800, 900 and 1000yds all day long. Its a real test of the whole package- gun, ammo and shooter.
Just screwed my little 6br barrel in last night as its only 36 shots old it needs some more lead thrown down it to get it right. It might be what I take to that shoot with a backup shehane barrel just in case it gets rougher than I like for the little 107 sierras.

Re: been to the range.
Well shot the Lithgow opm on Sunday. First 500 dropped 1 pt came second by .2 though the one I dropped I threw which pissed me off cause I knew I'd done it. Well still searching for that possible. Second 500 not as good only managed a 56.2 a ammo related 4 hurt a bit. So at lunch I was third by 2. Pts and only a center off second. Then came 600 Boom I imploded as did 1st and second I fucked it 49 first a 48 and second a 52 gifted it to the pack . Just gutted can't seem to finish

Re: been to the range.
Yeah but your a TR guy and I'm shooting f class. A 49 would have been a great score in TR not so good in F well going to do some testing over the weekend, I have a theory and hopefully it will bear fruit and my shooting wasn't the reason, but then again probably was me and I just don't want to admit it
