Re: been to the range.
bad luck mate...
sounds like here.. all the time.
we had our last club shoot for the year yesterday.
they decided on something different. [similar to the shoot they had at clairmont]
700yrds with flags.
2 sighters spotted
10 shots unmarked till the end
scores added up and group size calculated.
done twice.
makes no sense, but thats what we did ...
not my cup of tea....but hey..

Re: been to the range.
Oh look all ranges are different and different conditions effect them differently. It's all good experience, and shooting on different ranges add to me learning more which is good. I was hoping to do a hell of a lot better but it was what it was.
I don't know I'd love to see my complete group at the end of a shoot to see where they went and how tight I could keep it. I really have to concentrate on my 500 and 600 as they seem to be my worst ranges.

Re: been to the range.
Went down to Malabar on Friday night for the Festival of Sydney MDRA open shoot over the week end. Well Malabar is an interesting range to say the least, went down to get a feel for it for the NSW Queens later in the year but also to have a good crack at it as well.
Day one was two 500m's and 2 600 m's. The wind was howling all day and the rain had come by the time it was my second 500 but I came prepared for rain a trusty piece of lino to cover my scope and action. They did suspend shooting during the heaviest of the fall which was pretty heavy. Anyway to the scores
1 st 500 56.2
2 nd 500 55.2 (rain interrupted)
1 st 600 51.1 (30 plus cross winds)
2 nd 600 54.2 (again windy as hell but with angle changes as well)
SO ended the day in 4 th place overall, pretty bloody happy with that due to the conditions.
DAY 2 Started with me spewing my gut's up and shitting like a champ as well not a good start
Day 2 was a 15 shot at 700, a 10 shot at 800 and finish with a 15 shot at 800 which I was really looking forward to as I shoot the longer stuff better. I managed to complete the 700 scoring a respectable 86.5 but walked off the line and spew'd again so called it quit's. BUGGER. I was really looking forward to the 15 at 800 m's as I won a 800 at the ACT queens last year. Would like to think that I had a chance but we'll never know till next time.

Something I ate didn't drink enough to cause that harsh a hang over and actually finished on water of all things. I get bad head aches, not a migraine but neck tension headaches. Oh well there's always the NSW Queens coming up.

i get those also mate, cause i had 6 discs out of place.its definitely no fun.sometime shooter wrote: I get bad head aches, not a migraine but neck tension headaches. Oh well there's always the NSW Queens coming up.
i found the cheap woolies aspirin does a better job than disprin max.and takes less tabs to do it.
i was takin 6 disprin max to get rid of it where i now take just 2 aspirin, for the same result and quicker.
better luck at the queens my friend.....

Re: been to the range.
We had our Great Southern DRA on the weekend, must admit, I took a 20L drum of water and half of it was left to tip over the lawn when I got home today. Would have drunk 3-4L per day and a couple for brushing teeth and washing a frypan. Best way to keep the mind focused is to stay hydrated.

Little known fun fact:
Coke helps Asprin to work faster for pain relief.
Coke contains caffeine which acts as a vasodilator, which then lets the Asprin get to the pain receptors in the brain quicker.

Re: been to the range.
Interesting regarding the coke. But its nasty shit in terms of sugar and such. I find a decent brekkie, then a light lunch (banana) and plenty of water throughout the day is the go.
Sometimeshooter- We shot 300, 500, 500, 600 (15 shot) the first day then 700, 800 and 800 the second day. Dropped 2 points at 300 due to being a bit rusty not shooting for a while. 60.3 at first 500, 60.4 at second 500 then dropped 2 in the wind at 600. So 4 down for the day. Won the daily agg by a point over my mate. Sunday 60.6 at 700, 59.4 at 800 losing one on a pickup and the final 800 a 60.5 to stay only 1 down for the day and won that daily agg plus the grand as well. Ended up in front by 6 points over Wardy on here so it was a good 1-2 finish. Need to work on my short range shooting a bit more, its been my major let down for a while. Wardy had a ripper run in the short ranges with his 6 dasher.

Re: been to the range.
Normally I would agree with the decent breakie and lunch it's just I couldn't hold down even bloody water. Funny how the body works, your body needs water but won't accept it.
So what cal were you using I take it your an F open shooter.

Re: been to the range.
Ahh them days you just need to sleep and spew til its all over with.
284 shehane is what I shoot. Since I won FO I got the job of coaching the country team in the city vs country teams match. That brought me back down to reality... darn standard guns I lose a 5 one side, adjust then 5 out the other side, then pickup I adjust for and its still a 4... Get blown around twice as much as my gun does!

Re: been to the range.
That's why I like shooting F Std more of an even playing field, I am on budget restraint's. I have shot on occasions as good as the A graders. Geoff Willis and Jeff Eppleston and Grahame Willis are my rivals and coach's, only been doing this for a bit over 12 months.

Re: been to the range.
Yes FS is a bit more level in terms of that, but I like open as its the international discipline that I can get further with. Most people run similar calibers now so wind drift wise its all pretty eqaual. Saying that, goin back to standard guns takes alot more patience and thought and I wasnt doing that- all I wanted was a cold beer!
